One of the biggest names in the Korean entertainment industry and especially in broadcasting and to many K-Drama lovers is none other than 'KBS'. KBS, the Korean Broadcasting System, has played a vital role in the growth of K-Dramas over the decades with continuously high-ranking K-Dramas placing in the best ratings list of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Additionally, KBS has been known for producing some of the most iconic dramas adored by K-Drama lovers. Thanks to this, they also have some record ratings worth mentioning such as for the K-Drama "Bread, Love and Dreams" which aired in 2010 that reached a record 50.8% rating! Another of their K-Drama hits with sky-high ratings is "Descendants of The Sun" (2016) with a 38.8% rating.

1. "Royal Secret Agent" - 14%

"Royal Secret Agent" is the KBS drama with the highest rating (since 2020) at a 14% rating. Starring INFINITE's L (Kim MyungSoo), Kwon NaRa, and Lee YiKyung, many hailed the drama as one of the best historical K-Dramas out there. The drama turned its viewers into detectives who were just as invested in cracking the story as the characters and made for an immersive experience.

 

2. "Goryeo–Khitan War" - 13.8%

"Goryeo-Khitan War" is a 32-episode long and old-style historical drama that gained the hearts of a lot of viewers. It tells the story of the King of Goryeo named HyeonJong who united Goryo with various events including by leading the war with the Khitans. Starring Kim DongJun, Choi SooJung, and Ji SeungHyun, the drama ended with its highest rating at 13.8% (the drama started at 5%).

Note: this drama is a special drama to commemorate the 50th anniversary of KBS.

3. "The King's Affection" - 12.1%

"The King's Affection" was hailed as a drama that gives you butterflies, as K-Drama lovers couldn't get enough of the sweet storyline and affectionate chemistry between the main couple. Add to that the visual beauty of this historical drama and the deal is sealed. Starring RoWoon and Park EunBin, the drama earned a rating of 12.1%.

 

4. "King Of Tears, Lee BangWon" - 11.7%

"King Of Tears, Lee BangWon" told the history of King TaeJong in a way that put a refreshing twist on the well-known history of the king. The drama was particularly enjoyed by history buffs for the way that it kept the already-known narrative exciting. Starring Joo SangWook, Kim YeongCheol, Ye JiWon, and Park JinHee, the drama made a rating of 11.7%.

 

5. "Woman of 9.9 Billion" - 11.6%

This is yet another drama that made a bold impression on K-Drama lovers. Many found the narrative thrilling and filled with suspense that had you on the edge of your seat waiting to see how it ended. Starring Cho YeoJeong and Kim KangWoo, the drama achieved a rating of 11.6%.

 

6. "River Where the Moon Rises" - 10%

This drama earned praise for many elements from the cast's acting portrayals, to the cinematography, to the OST, and more. Fans couldn't get enough of the electric chemistry between the actors, too. Starring Kim SoHyun, Na InWoo, Lee JiHoon, and Choi YuHwa, "River Where The Moon Rises" earned a rating of 10%.

 

7. "Oasis" - 9.7%

This drama took a fresh approach to an educational lesson on Korean history. Many were impressed with the actors who gave the noir drama its depth. "Oasis", starring Jang DongYoon, Seor InA, and Choo YoungWoo, secured a rating of 9.7%.

 

8. "Bloody Heart" - 8.9%

"Bloody Heart" earned a rating of 8.9%. Starring Jang Hyuk, Lee Joon, and Kang HanNa, the drama was praised for the depth of its storyline and characters. With a riveting narrative, the characters each carried out their convictions in a convincing way.

 

9. "Police University" - 8.5%

"Police University" was a K-Drama filled with life lessons and sweet moments that brought a lot of fun to the screen. Starring Cha TaeHyun, JinYoung, and f(x)'s Krystal, the drama earned an 8.5% rating.

 

10. "Moonshine" - 7.6%

"Moonshine" did what a lot of dramas can't do easily. It mixed the complex world of politics with a romantic comedy aspect that made for a pleasant viewing experience. Fans were especially pleased with the emotional conviction of the actors, Yoo SeungHo and Girl's Day's HyeRi - earning the drama a 7.6% rating.

 

11. "Forest" - 7.4%

"Forest" gained a lot of praise for its beautiful setting and beautiful story. Many fans expressed that watching the drama had a healing effect on them and that they appreciated the sweet chemistry between the main characters, played by actors Park HaeJin and Cho BoAh, too. This earned the drama ratings of 7.4%.

 

12. "Curtain Call" - 7.2%

"Curtain Call" was a fresh kind of period drama well-received by many fans. The drama carried a deep sentiment that appealed to viewers. Starring Kang HaNeul, Ha JiWon, and Go DooShim, the drama secured 7.2% ratings.

 

13. "The Law Cafe" - 7.1%

"The Law Cafe" earned the high ratings of 7.1%. Starring Lee SeungGi and Lee SeYoung, this law-and-order type drama had fans rolling with laughter at the witty antics and had their hearts fluttering at the romantic moments.

 

14. "Sell Your Haunted House" - 6.9%

The fantasy webtoon "Tomorrow" (in Korean "내일") by RaMa is adapted into a drama. It tells the story of the job seeker Choi JunWoong who fell into a coma due to an accident and entered the Special Crises Management Team of the underworld. The Special Crises Management Team was created because there have been too many suicides leading to an unexpected situation in the underworld. Their duty is to take care of humans with a high risk of suicide and to make them want to live.

The drama was produced by SuperMoon Pictures, who previously worked on "My Strange Hero" and "Goodbye to Goodbye", and StudioN. SF9’s RoWoon, Kim HeeSun, Lee SooHyuk, and Yoon JiOn are cast. The drama aired from April 1st on MBC.

3. "All of Us Are Dead" / Schedule status: From January 28

The webtoon named "Now at our School" (in Korean "지금 우리 학교는") by Joo DongKeun is adapted into a drama. It is a zombie related webtoon restricted to readers under 18 years old, written in 2009. It tells the story of those isolated in a high school where a zombie virus has been spread, and those who are trying to save them.

The drama is a Netflix Original Korean drama under the title "All of Us Are Dead". The PD of the drama is Lee JaeKyu who worked on dramas such as "The King 2 Hearts" and movies "Intimate Strangers", "The Fatal Encounter", and "The Influence". The manhwa (manga) and webtoon "Island" (in Korean "아일랜드") by Yoon InWan and Yang KyungIl is adapted. The webtoon "Annarasumanara" (in Korean "안나라수마나라") by Ha IlKwon was adapted into the Netflix drama "The Sound of Magic". It tells the story of Yun Ai who lost her dream of becoming a magician and is living in difficult circumstances. She meets a magician and gradually starts to want to realize her dream.

9. "Semantic Error" / Schedule status: From February 16

The BL web drama "Semantic Error" is the adaptation of the web novel "Semantic Error" (in Korean "시맨틱 에러") written by Jeosuri in 2018. The web novel was adapted into a webtoon in July 2020 (still ongoing with the illustrations from Enji). The campus BL "Semantic Error" tells the campus romance about the inflexible SangWoo and his encounter with the campus’ most popular student, JaeYoung.

Former KNK member Park SeoHam and DKZ’s JaeChan are the lead cast. The drama was released on February 16 on WATCHA.

10. "Jinxed At First" / Schedule status: From June 15

The fantasy romance webtoon "The Jinx’s Lover" (in Korean "징크스의 연인") by Han JiHye and KooSeul is adapted into the drama "Jinxed At First". It is a story about a man who adapts himself to his life full of misfortune, and the goddess, who jumps into the unknown world to lift the curse.

"Good Manager" (also known as "Manager Kim") is described as one of those must-watch K-Dramas for everyone. Between the amazing story, the fresh twist on its subject matter, the perfect casting, and the perfect cast chemistry, this drama lacks in no area. Starring NamKoong Min, Nam SangMi, 2PM's Lee JunHo, and Jung HyeSung, the drama secured a rating of 18.4%.

 

6. "The Producers" - 17.7%

"Producers" was one of the first dramas of its kind, being completely unique. Naturally, it grew a huge appeal thanks to its star-studded lineup. However, incredible casting aside, the directing and camera work gave a fresh perspective to the show, grabbing attention with its interesting mockumentary rom-com mash-up. Starring Cha TaeHyun, Kong HyoJin, Kim SooHyun, and IU, "Producers" earned a 17.7% rating.

 

7. "My Lawyer, Mr. Jo" - 17.3%

"My Lawyer, Mr Jo" starring Park ShinYang and Kang SoRa, achieved a 17.3% rating. Not only was this drama insightful in the way it offered satirical social commentary, but it also captured the hearts of viewers with its high entertainment value. Fans were especially taken by the cast of stand-out actors.

 

8. "Doctor Prisoner" - 15.8%

"Doctor Prisoner" delivers everything that a classic revenge drama should. It packs a satisfying punch which is why it's no surprise that the drama earned such a huge following. Starring NamKoong Min, Kwon NaRa, Kim ByungChul, and Choi WonYoung, "Doctor Prisoner" earned ratings of 15.8%.

 

9. "Witch's Court" - 14.3%

"Witch's Court" starring Jung RyeoWon and Yoon HyunMin earned ratings of 14.3%. The drama gained a lot of praise for having a strong heroine protagonist and combining that with the quickfire world of law, which earned it a lot of anticipation among K-Drama fans. It's safe to say that this anticipation paid off and more than delivered, judging by the high ratings.

 

10. "Royal Secret Agent" - 14.0%

"Royal Secret Agent" secured a 14% rating. Starring INFINITE's L (Kim MyungSoo), Kwon NaRa, and Lee YiKyung, many hailed the drama as one of the best historical K-Dramas out there. The drama turned its viewers into detectives who were just as invested in cracking the story as the characters and made for an immersive experience.

11. "Fight for My Way" - 13.8%

Starring Park SeoJun, Kim JiWon, Ahn JaeHong, and Song HaYoon, the drama earned ratings of 13.8%. This drama is one of the most beloved dramas on the lists of avid K-Drama lovers. It lacks none of the K-Drama tropes that make the genre as great as it does. With heart-fluttering moments tucked in between hilarious scenes, there's no wonder this drama was (and still is) so popular.

 

12. "Unkind Ladies" - 13.7%

Starring Kim HyeJa, Chae ShiRa, Do JiWon, and Lee HaNa, this drama secured 13.7%. This drama earned a lot of attention for its portrayal of real human emotions, adding to its relatability. The theme surrounding kindness made for an emotional rollercoaster and riveting watch, too.

 

13. "Black Knight" - 13.2%

"Black Knight" starring Kim RaeWon, Shin SaeKyeong, Seo JiHye, and Jang MiHee, earned ratings of 13.2%. "Black Knight" is yet another fan-favorite K-Drama thanks to its heartwarming moments and the cheesy moments that will make you smile and laugh throughout.

 

14. "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" - 13.1%

Starring Park SeoJun, Go ARa, Park HyungSik, Seo YeaJi, SHINee's MinHo, Do JiHan, BTS' V, and more, the drama earned ratings of 13.1%. Known as 'The Drama That Got Me Into K-Dramas' for many K-Drama fans, "Hwarang" is a classic with its star-studded cast, feel-good narrative, and iconic moments that will have you hitting the rewind button.

 

15. "Miracle That We Met" - 13.1%

"Miracle That We Met" starring Ra MiRan, Kim MyungMin, and Kim HyunJoo, also earned ratings of 13.1%. "Miracle That We Met" boasted an unpredictable story thanks to its mix of fantasy elements in a modern story. Additionally, the cast made quite an impression as they delivered a strong message with their impactful acting.

 

16. "Uncontrollably Fond" - 12.9%

Starring Kim WooBin, Suzy, Im JooHwan, and Im JuEun, the drama earned ratings of 12.9%. This is the drama that had everyone grabbing a box of Kleenex with all of its heart-wrenching moments that will have you hugging your cushion as you watch. The tragic romance and melodramatic side stories will have you in your feels - which is part of why it's such a great immersive drama.

 

17. "Woman of 9.9 Billion" - 11.6%

This is yet another drama that made a bold impression on K-Drama lovers. Many found the narrative thrilling and filled with suspense that had you on the edge of your seat waiting to see how it ended. Starring Cho YeoJeong and Kim KangWoo, the drama achieved a rating of 11.6%.

18. "Queen of Mystery" - 11.6%

The drama secured ratings of 11.6% starring Kwon SangWoo and Choi KangHee. The chemistry in this drama was undeniable and one of the many elements that worked well for this drama. As a result, many fans couldn't get enough of the drama's flavorful storytelling and mix of genres, earning it a large following.

 

19. "Suits" - 10.7%

Starring Park HyungSik, Jang DongGun, Jin HeeKyung, Chae JungAn, Ko SungHee, and Choi GwiHwa, the drama earned ratings of 10.7%. Adapted from the American version of the show, many K-Drama fans and fans of the original American series had a lot of praise to give to this production. Not only were fans impressed with the actors' portrayals and interpretations of the original characters, but they also created a high-quality production that has high re-watch value.

 

20. "Sweet Stranger and Me" - 10.6%

Starring Park SooAe, Kim YoungKwang, Lee SooHyuk, Cho BoAh, and Kim JiHun, the drama earned ratings of 10.6%. This drama captured the attention of drama fans for not only having an entertaining main storyline but managing the difficult task of getting fans invested in the side storylines, too. Other than that, the light-hearted nature of the story made for a wholesome viewing experience.
