Why Big Hit Entertainment Doesn’t Have To Spend Any Real Money On BTS Marketing Shocks Netizens
For a K-Pop idol group like BTS, you’d probably assume that a lot of money and strategies would go into their marketing.
But if you also think about it, the name BTS is now pretty much a household name as they are arguably the first ever K-Pop group to achieve things that were once thought as impossible and were also the first K-Pop act to be embraced by the US music scene on an unprecedented scale. So why would Big Hit Entertainment have to spend their hard earned fortune in marketing fees for BTS, right? They’re already known by the entire world, even in North Korea, and what more is there that needs to be done in terms of marketing?
If you’re thinking “nothing”, then you’re probably correct and on the same page as Big Hit Entertainment.
The group does well in selling themselves and doesn’t need that much marketing at all. The document below shows the expenditures of Big Hit Entertainment. And if you look at the very bottom, which is for marketing, you can see that only 4,000,000 KRW, which is approximately around $3,900, goes in to marketing for BTS.
Marketing spending is usually one of the most expensive and consuming areas of operation for any industry. And $4,000 for marketing to get the job done is unheard of in a lot of cases when it comes to promotion of brands, artists, services, and etc.
In addition, just recently at a Google conference, it was revealed that the group name was also added in to the auto-typing database for phones.
If Google is even mentioning BTS in their conferences, it’s no wonder why Big Hit is spending amounts that are equivalent to lunch money on marketing for BTS.
Below are some of the reactions from netizens.
“Even without marketing..”
“Isn’t 4,000,000 KRW too little lol”
“Bangtan are on another level seriously.”
“My dad watches the news a lot, he doesn’t know any BTS songs but he knows a lot about BTS.”
