4 "Special Cities" In South Korea To Be Allowed More Autonomy

Viator / Trip Advisor / The Crazy Tourist / Expedia

The population in South Korea continues to grow, reaching all-time highs in various cities. Among them, four have been deemed "special cities", reaching a population of over 1 million people. With this immense uptick in people, President Yoon SukYeol has made a vow to allow these cities more autonomy to "properly establish various urban development plans, including for strategic industries".

The cities named were Yongin, Suwon, Goyang, and Changwon. Instead of going through a regional office for construction permits, these "special cities" would be allowed to handle this process themselves, since they best know the area in question. This will allow faster development, meeting the various needs of the growing population in these "special cities" and surrounding area.
