Artists Of "Head In The Clouds": An Inside Look Featuring Interviews With Lyn Lapid, Spence Lee, Voice Of Baceprot, & ATARASHII GAKKO!

Head In The Clouds

An interview is often described as a face-to-face meeting to gain information usually on the person being interviewed but it didn't matter how many questions I asked these 4 completely different artists. The depth of their complexity and love for their fans can't be so easily translated even with an English degree. During the Head In The Clouds (HITC) Festival, I got to sit down with Lyn Lapid, Spence Lee, Voice of Baceprot (VoB), and ATARASHII GAKKO!.

Starting with Lyn Lapid, an American Filipino songwriter that skyrocketed in popularity after her TikTok debut with an original snippet named 'Producer Man'.

When asked about her process toward creating the music she said:

Yeah, when I write songs there is usually a pattern I follow that I do and I usually start with a topic and then after I come up with chords that kinda fit that topic vibe-wise.
Lyn Lapid

So far, all the music she has released has touched very real topics she’s personally experienced or related to. Her most recent album “to love in the 21st century” hasn’t been an exception to that pattern either! When asked whether she experienced that personally, she responded with:

Yes, definitely, I feel like it’s such a universal experience with Gen Z. It’s a big thing right now; situationships and non-committal relationships so I knew I really wanted to write about it.
Lyn Lapid

Maybe it's due to her age, but every one near her who hears her sound can't help but fall in love with her music and her open/accepting attitude. Even though there were some sound issues during her set, which could break anyone, she kept her mind clear and kept singing without tracks or in-ears, which is a huge accomplishment for any artist, and the crowd and her fans did nothing but support her.

Spence Lee is a Vietnamese/Chinese American singer who makes soul music and is a catalyst of art of all kinds that draws interest from a lot of great artists like Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Stevie Wonder in hopes of one day collaborating with them. He is truly an artist. Whether it comes to his videos' creative direction, his clothing line, or his lyrics, he always finds a way to put all 1000% of himself into everything he does.

His new single coming soon is called 'Spend My Days' and in his words, he described it as:

A real soulful groovy song; it’s about love transcending time and universes in any era/time period but the love always stays true and pure.
Spence Lee

His view on life is a special kind of mindset everyone should think about adopting.

His answer to the question, "Do you consider yourself successful?" was:

I consider myself successful because I woke up this morning and breathed fresh air and life into my lungs, I’m successful every day I wake up.
Spence Lee

Voice of Baceprot is an Indonesian all-female metal trio that has been self-learning its way into the world of metal since 2014. The Head In The Clouds Festival was their first time in Los Angeles and not only that, but it was also their first stop on their first U.S. tour! Head In The Clouds is known for having all genres of music attending but no one brought the metal sound to the stage like Voice of Baceprot.

Everyone headbanging in the crowd along to the music was a sight for the ages. Music like theirs just brings people together. For them though, it's not enough to feed the hunger they constantly feel to perform. When bringing up the topic of their success they mentioned:

For us, success is when we all feel happy, and now we are definitely happy, but we can be happier. We want more.
Voice of Baceprot

The way they are confident about their music is also conveyed when speaking to them. You get the feeling of 'this is what these girls are meant to do and they love doing it'.

Last but most certainly not least is, ATARASHII GAKKO!, also known as New School Leaders. They are leading the way for J-Pop in the US with fan-favorite songs like 'Pineapple Kryptonite'.

Debuting young, in 2017, had its challenges but the girls said:

Even though there were some challenges because it was all four of us together we were able to overcome it.

Their silly and carefree attitude is so alluring, especially in person. It makes you feel a sort of fondness for them, even if you don't know them, which I'm sure is why their fans are so captivated. These amazing performers don't realize how big they are yet, again when asked about their perspective on if they are successful, they responded with:

I don't think we are or have been successful yet, when people all over the world say, “Oh we love AG,” that's when we can say we are successful.
ATARASHII GAKKO!

Yet while walking around Head In The Clouds and speaking to fans, a majority of them were wearing ATARASHII GAKKO! merchandise and saying how they were at the festival for them. It really was refreshing to see such a well-known group of performers act so humbly and down-to-earth.
