Kpopmap Fan Interview: A French iE Talks About Her Favorite Group TEMPEST & Her Bias HanBin

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

 

Camely from France is the next fan to answer our questions. She is a fan of TEMPEST and her bias is HanBin. Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

 

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello, I’m Camely. I’m a 21yo girl and I’m a French iE from Paris!

 

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I’m in iE fandom since predebut era, since the day TEMPEST name was revealed through Kipris (June 10th, 2021).
Honestly, I was a Hannies before (Hannies are HanBin’s predebut fans). Since “I-LAND” I always supported HanBin’s dreams so it was natural for me to support HanBin’s future group actually named TEMPEST.

 

What are the reasons why this rookie group is your favorite group?

TEMPEST is my favorite group because as I said before, I support TEMPEST since predebut era, I follow TEMPEST growth since one year now. One year ago TEMPEST was a rumor group, predebut iE’s hopes and dreams. Now TEMPEST is our reality in our daily lives. I really waited for TEMPEST everyday from June 2021 to the last day of December 2021. I’m so happy they are really worth the wait !
I was here for HanBin but I fell in love with HyeongSeopXEuiWoong last year too and other members revealed in January because Hyuk, EunChan, HwaRang and TaeRae are so talented and amazing. I really love them so much now. TEMPEST debuted only 4 months ago but it’s like I have known them since a long time.

 

What do you think differentiates this rookie group from the others?

I think what differentiates TEMPEST from other groups is the way they’re so authentic and unique with members who really participate in album and music creation.
TEMPEST is a strong name for a group so I expected TEMPEST to be a group with a darker concept, but they debuted with the title ‘Bad News’ is really a song colorful and joyful. I like they use the word TEMPEST for the great energy they transmitted through their songs and not from something somber.
To be honest, last year, I wasn’t satisfied by boy groups music because some of them were mostly so repetitive and similar. But TEMPEST’s music surprised me with music that suits my tastes so well !
Last point, TEMPEST are all adults! I know it’s a detail and age doesn’t matter but in an industry where idols are getting younger day by day, our Maknae TaeRae is a 02 liner! I don’t stan a baby group.
And I want to add that TEMPEST sold almost 100K albums, numbers are talking by themself.

 

For the readers who are completely new to the group and members, can you introduce them with your own words?

TEMPEST is a boy group who debuted March 2nd 2022 under Yuehua Entertainment (Everglow, Yena, WOODZ and Lee DoHyun company ).
TEMPEST means strong storm, their group name shows how much they want to slay the K-Pop industry with their music!
TEMPEST have 7 members: 2 members from “Produce 101” s2 named LEW and HyeongSeop who already debuted in 2017 in a previous unit project called HyeongSeopXEuiWoong, LEW is the LEADER and Rap position. HyeongSeop is the MC of the group, in dance and vocal position.
HWARANG the charismatic main dancer and raper of the group, he’s from the survival “Under Nineteen”, he was also a former DSP media trainee, back dancer of KARD and he almost debuted under MIRAE.
HANBIN is the former leader of a K-Pop dance crew from Vietnam named C.A.C. He’s in the vocal and dance position. He’s a former participant of the survival “I-LAND”. He was so popular after the show that he had solo activities as a trainee under Belift but he chose finally to join Yuehua to debut with TEMPEST.
Other members (even if they were practically unknown before) showed so much great things through TEMPEST.
Hyuk, the ACE. He can do everything, as the main singer he sings so well but he can rap and dance so well too. He’s so cute and polite like an angel but his charisma is wow. But his high notes are on another level.
EunChan graduated from Hanlim High School as a Model and is the tallest member (187cm). He can seem shy and mysterious at first but he’s effortlessly funny and warm. He’s TEMPEST King Fashion, really cool and handsome. His winks are so adorable: it makes my heart melt a lot. His voice isn’t a joke either!
And finally TaeRae our Maknae, he’s so cute and brilliant. He dances and rap so well~ I really like his facial expression, his duality is insane because like I said before he’s a real cutie pie but he has a really low voice which helps him a lot to make him really charismatic!
In conclusion: Please love TEMPEST a lot!

 

Who caught your attention at first and why? Did you know any members prior to their debut?

Yes I knew HanBin, HyeongSeop and LEW. HanBin who caught my attention first because I’m his fan since “I-LAND”. I knew who HyeongSeop and LEW from HyeongSeopXEuiWoong were the day HanBin joined Yuehua, and I immediately started to love them!

 

Do you have a bias yet? If yes, tell us why.

Yes HanBin because as I said multiple times before I have supported him for two years already.
HanBin is just so talented, kind and a warm human. How can’t we love him really? He’s just everything I like, I respect him a lot for what he realized as an artist.
I was a multifandom K-Pop fan before but I realized that HanBin was the most important artist to me. When I had to live without any news for 7 months, he is someone so bright who makes me really happy so when he disappeared. I just wanted to see him realize his dream with his future group. The thing I learned from this period is how much the time that the idol gave us everyday is precious. If they can be here by our side everyday it’s because they worked really really really hard! Now I have TEMPEST in my life. I feel really grateful and I really love all the members, I feel it was my fate to meet TEMPEST.

 

What do you particularly like in this debut title track? Do you have a favorite B-side?

As I said before, ‘Bad News’ is definitely a song unlike other groups. It was unexpectedly so refreshing with good vibes!
‘Bad News’ is so meaningful, this is literally a song to present TEMPEST identity, story, goals and inspirations, this is not just a random subject.
Their first and only album named “It’s ME, it’s WE” have 5 songs with 5 different vibes. I’m sure everyone at least can like one of TEMPEST songs + they’re prepared 4 dance performances!
‘BAD NEWS’, is a funky(?) song that you should listen to in the morning to wake up.

 

I also recommend ‘Just A Little Bit’ in the morning! ‘BAD AT LOVE’ is for the one who likes refreshing concepts but in a way cute. If you’re sentimental and like ballads like me ‘NEXT TO YOU’ is what you need. And if you walk in streets and want to feel COOL and STRONG I recommend you ‘FIND ME’, the song with an old school vibe.
If you have time, you can check the meanings of the lyrics written by LEW and HwaRang! LEW and HwaRang worked really hard for the album. Isn’t it great to support a group that talk about their own stories?
NEXT ‘TO YOU’ is my favorite song because I can relate so much with the lyrics “Actually, how was I able to laugh and cry when I didn’t know you? My happiness is filled up every day because of you my cold and dark world seems to be getting warmer” This suits perfectly how I see TEMPEST. But ‘BAD AT LOVE’ is also my favorite song because this song just makes me feel good, it’s so cute ! I really love the concept !

 

 

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or other from your favorite group or bias?

There is so much content to watch. How can I choose?
-There are predebut covers that TEMPEST released.
-I recommend you also “MOVEREC TEMPEST” video with Dingo because they really explained all the precession of the creation of the album. It was so interesting.
-TEMEPSTory a little documentary about TEMPEST story.
– TEMPEST Vlives if you want to see TEMPEST in their daily lives? Especially the one where they did a mukbang and a Karaoke, it was so funny.
-TEMFLIX their variety show emission.
But the most important thing I want to ask is to stream ‘BAD NEWS’ MV. It’s important !

 

 

 

 

What are the things you are looking for in their future activities?

I’m so excited just thinking about a potential comeback!
I can’t wait to see new sides of them. New concepts, new songs.
TEMPEST deserves so much to receive a ROTY award!
Also, I know it’s too soon to talk about that but one of my dreams is to see TEMPEST in France, my country for a concert! So later I hope they’ll do a Europe tour!
French iE are so supportive, I know they’ll like us~~ The day I’ll see them I’ll cry for sure!

 

What type of concept do you prefer: cute, dark, sexy, etc?

I prefer cute concepts because cute concepts make me so happy but I like every concepts.

 

What is your best souvenir with your favorite group until now?

The best souvenir I had is the fancall I had with TEMPEST. I was able to congratulate TEMPEST members for their debuts. But also the time HanBin read and replied to my long letter from fancafé. It was a letter I could tell everything I wanted to tell him so I was so grateful he took his precious time to read it.

 

Can you recommend words that your bias like to hear to new fans who don’t know yet about it?

TEMPEST is the only group who deserves the ROTY in 2022.

 

Can you share with readers the first ever picture you’ve saved of your bias on your phone?

Yes, that’s this picture.

 

Can you describe your bias in only one word?

HanBin is just HanBin.
A random word isn’t enough to describe who’s HanBin to me.

 

What is a random fact that you think people don’t know about them?

EunChan can ride a bicycle backwards.

 

Name a variety show/content show that you would love to see your bias on? Tell us why.

I can tell that I want to see them on a popular variety show like “Weekly Idol” but I want that only for promotions. To be honest the content I want to see the most are VLOG from TEMPEST.

 

If you could spend the day with them, what would you want to do together?

I would see the process of creation, like behind the scenes, because as a fan we always see the final work but I think that it’s really interesting to know what’s the process.

 

Can you recall a moment where you cried/laughed with your bias?

That’s a little bit embarrassing but during the fancall I had with HanBin, I cried in front of him but because he’s HanBin I was laughing at the same time~

 

Name 1 quality in your bias that you wish you had.

I wish I could be as positive and lovely as HanBin.

 

Is there some food you saw your bias group eat that made you crave it too?

Yes, HanBin cooks so well so every time he uploads his new recipes I want so bad to taste it!

 

If your bias were to collab with another idol, who do you think would be best?

There is so many talented artist under Yuehua Entertainment like Everglow, Yena or WOODZ so I hope they’ll collab with them first.

 

What is the biggest mystery about your favourite idol?

I don’t know~~ Maybe their comeback date now?

I’m just proud of TEMPEST, they’re so talented and full of potential. They aren’t from a big company but what they did until now is amazing. As NEXT to you lyrics I’ll always be NEXT to TEMPEST side, I’m gonna work harder as a fan to repay the happiness they give me everyday!
