6 Contestants Who Have Surprised Us From Competition Program "Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival"

"Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival" Official

Mnet's "Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival", simply known as "Build Up", is well underway and even in its early stages, the competition is hot with passion and endless possibilities. So far the show's been through 2 rounds worth of vocal performances with the third just looming on the horizon. As the contestants continue to show their skills, viewers naturally find themselves falling for every single one of them.

Heading into the program, there were many well-known vocalists whose skills have become known far and wide. From Park JeUp's breathtaking high notes to ONE PACT Jay Chang's indisputable groove, many viewers were looking forward to these contestants, and more. While there has been a general consensus of contestants who will do great due to their vocal capabilities, there are some that took everyone by surprise. These contestants made a heartfelt statement that they certainly should not be counted out.

Now, here are a few vocalists who surprised us from "Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival" so far.

        1. JUST B's Bain

During the PRE-4 Mission, Bain was certainly good but due to the strength of his group he was only able to achieve a mid tier ranking. However, all of this changed during the 2v2 Rival Mission. Together with Kim MinSeo, Bain gave a spellbinding performance of 'River'. He made a complete transformation from the first round with the allure of his singing strength. Bain gave a statement performance that raised all expectations for him going forward.

        2. Wumuti

Wumuti is no stranger to survival competitions. We've seen the idol appear on "Under Nineteen" and "Boys Planet", however, each time was unable to make it into the debut lineup. Although, it seems something has changed in him since then as every performance so far has been casting Wumuti in a different light. His vocals seem to have become unlocked, slowly becoming refined to possess a diamond-like aura. Every note is pristine, able to effortlessly draw all netizens in.

        3. Jeong YunSeo

It wouldn't be a competition program without a few trainees in the mix. One who's shown undeniable skill since the start is Jeong YunSeo. Everything from his on stage poise, diction, and line delivery makes it hard to believe he has yet to debut. Through "Build Up", YunSeo is constantly proving that he can stand toe to toe with his sunbaes with the potential to shake up the competition and take the world by storm.

        4. Lee GwangSeok

There are many well-known names among the contestants that naturally find themselves standing in the spotlight. However, one surprising new face is model Lee GwangSeok. Despite not having any vocal training, his husky voice captivated everyone from judges to contestants alike. With proper guidance and time, Lee GwangSeok has the potential to become a mainstay in the music industry for years to come.

        5. JUNGSOOMIN

Born in Chicago, Illinois, JUNGSOOMIN is free-spirited and carefree, a shining example of his Western upbringing. However, all of this changes the moment he has a microphone in his hand. He's been absolutely killing it since the very beginning, stunning everyone with his surprising duality. While there's similarities between his personas on and off stage, the differences will make you fall even more for JUNGSOOMIN as "Build Up" carries on.

        6. Choi SuHwan

When Choi SuHwan first greeted the public, it was as a contestant on "Produce X 101". Since then he's made his solo debut, but has flown just below the radar of the K-Pop community. Now through "Build Up" he has been able to showcase his immense vocal prowess and how he's greatly improved since being a trainee. Choi SuHwan is a complete all-rounder, being able to sing, rap, and create melodious harmonies with his fellow contestants. Choi SuHwan is in full bloom and ready to show off what he's made of through Mnet's "Build Up".

Is there another contestant you would like to add to the list? Who do you hope will make it to the final lineup?
