A Japanese lyOn Talks About Her Favorite Group OnlyOneOf & Her Bias Nine

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other's stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

Kana from Japan is the next fan to answer our questions. She is a fan of OnlyOneOf and more particularly of Nine! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello, I’m Kana. I’m from Japan.

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I had surgery in April 2020, and due to the influence of COVID-19, I had to stay home for about two months. Around that time, I saw OnlyOneOf's 'angel' performance on a Korean music program and was hooked on them!

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

I like that they are usually very cute but their performance is cool. The gap between their looks and their personalities is attractive.

Who caught your attention at first and why?

At first, Rie and Nine were cute and caught my eye. At the time, JunJi had long bangs that made his eyes invisible, and I thought it would be nice to him have a mysterious atmosphere.

Who is your bias, and why?

My bias is Nine.
I like that Nine is so energetic even I can get energy from watching him. I like his kindness of showing consideration to the members, fans, and staff.
But I am a fan of all the members.

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

I recommend 'angel' for title track and ‘blOssOm’ ,‘designer’ ,‘gaslighting’ for B-side track for new fans.

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

I like all of 'angel' fancams because Nine looks cute when he moves to the stage wing. Nine's self-composed song "daisy" is also recommended.

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

I like their cover dance videos they arranged. Please watch ‘dOlphin’ and ‘the 7th sense’.

The lyrics of 'libidO' are sexy and sensational, but I took libido as a necessity to live. I understand the lyrics that it's OnlyOneOf for lyOn lol.

What type of concept do you prefer: cute, dark, sexy, etc?

I actually like the cute, refreshing concept. I think it's good that OnlyOneOf is sexy but elegant and transparent.

Can you share with readers the first ever picture you've saved of your bias on your phone?

It is this picture.

Can you describe your bias in only one word?

Fox🦊.

For me, my bias is...

My bias' existence is precious. I wouldn't ask my bias to have any other role.

What's your favourite 2022 moment involving your bias?

Their live in Japan. Not only Nine, but all the members worked hard and they tried to use Japanese as much as possible. Seeing them made me happy.

Name a variety show/content show that you would love to see your bias on? Tell us why.

"아는 형님(Men On A Mission)". They don't have much experience in variety shows, so I want them to see talking with other celebrities.

Can you recall a moment where you cried/laughed with your bias?

In the 나고야 사투리 너무 귀엽자냥 video, they say 'nyaa', while they were in Nagoya, they always used 'nyaa' at the end of their sentences, which was really cute and funny. "Nyaa" is a Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat's meow. In fact, they were speaking in the wrong usage of the Nagoya dialect.

Is there some food you saw your bias group eat that made you crave it too?

When they came to Japan, they’ve eaten various kinds of delicious Japanese food, and I wanted to eat them all. And there are some foods that I actually went to eat after looking at the photos Rie uploaded to the fancafe.

What is your favorite group/bias' influence on your daily life?

Since becoming a fan of OnlyOneOf, I've been re-learning Korean. I studied Korean when I was a student, but it's difficult because they speak a lot of neologisms and dialects.

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

Since 'libidO'era, there have been MVs with the same world building, but they have not revealed their gender identity or sexual orientation.
It's just my personal opinion, but I'm sad if people think it’s queerbaiting.
The MV is a work that expresses what they can do to reflect the world building of the song, so I hope you will look closely to see what happens to the story that "Begin when you are free from all prejudices", as in YooJung's 'begin' lyrics. This project is still ongoing.
