Kpopmap Fan Interview: A Malaysian HONEY10 Talks About UP10TION & Her Bias SunYoul

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other' stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

Mita is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from Malaysia and is a fan of UP10TION and more particulary of SunYoul. Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello! My name is Mita and I'm from Malaysia. I am a fan of UP10TION, otherwise known as HONEY10, and my bias is SunYoul!

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I first got to know UP10TION through their debut MV 'So Dangerous' but I started to become a huge fan and a part of the fandom shortly before they released their "Laberinto" album.

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

Although I became a fan at the time when 'Blue Rose' was released, the performance that further caught my attention is 'Tonight'! Upon watching all videos of them performing 'Tonight', I instantly thought about how amazing their stage presence was! You have to pay attention to their energy on stage as well as their facial expressions. I was so amazed that I just couldn't help myself from falling in love even more.
Now, UP10TION has matured a lot in term of their music. I love them because their music is distinct and their songs suit them a lot. Most of their discographies are a must-listen. I also love them because of the way they treasure us HONEY10. They're just so precious and lovely, there's just no way not to fall in love.

Who caught your attention at first and why?

Kuhn was the very first member who caught my attention. Since the first MV of them I watched is 'So Dangerous', he instantly caught my attention with his bright blonde hair and strong facial features.

Who is your bias, and why?

My bias right now is our super talented main vocal, SunYoul! For sure, I love him because of his outstanding vocal. When people talk about SunYoul, there is no way that they won't mention about his vocal abilities. He is known for his extraordinary vocal, especially his high notes that are perfectly slayed every single time. SunYoul is always thinking about his fans and how he could give us gifts through his voice and music, and I really appreciate that. He is also a perfectionist, which I find admirable. Other than that, he is extra relatable in a lot of ways, and HONEY10 would definitely know why I am saying this.

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

For title track, I would definitely recommend 'White Night'. The MV has the vibes of a drama and the song itself is catchy. Lots of people say that this song deserves a win on music shows. Why? You will need to check it out and you will understand why.

For a B-side track, I would really recommend you to listen to 'Still With You'. It's an emotional ballad song performed by the vocal unit, and it was released in 2018 as a B-side for their first full album, "Invitation". Their vocals blend perfectly in this track, and I really want more people to know that this song exists.

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

For this, of course I have to talk about a series of cover songs from SunYoul called "SUNYOUL'IVE". Through this series, SunYoul once became viral for his cover of 'Speechless' by Naomi Scott, and the video now has over 1.2M views on YouTube.

His cover of 'Into the Unknown', 'Defying Gravity' and 'Dance Monkey' became hot topics as well.

His latest cover of 'Loving You Girl' showcases just another magic of his that has managed to steal every viewer's heart.

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

I would appreciate it if you could check out UP10TION singing their latest song 'Crazy About You' live on a radio show. More people should realize just how amazing they are at performing live.

Other than that, if you're in the mood for some entertainment and comedy, you should really check out this content of them trying to dance without alerting the appointed "guard". It is so funny, I bet you will be tired from laughing... Just like I was.

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

"푸른색 빛 꿈속에, 쏟아진 별처럼 (In a blue-like dream, like the falling stars)
그곳의 너와 나, 처음만 있는 밤 (You and me there, the first night)
우린 영원한 축제인 거야,
절대로 멈추지 않을 거야 (We are an eternal festival, never gonna stop)"
This lyric is from their B-side called 'Parade'. It's a fan song and just like an endless parade, UP10TION and HONEY10 will be a parade that will never end. In our own little world, we hope to always keep it alive with a lot of happy memories.

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

In a letter written by SunYoul for UP10TION's 4th anniversary, he said, "When you listen to a song, you remember the time you enjoyed listening to it. I'll be here for a long time so that many people can listen to my voice and remember that moment!"

What is your favorite group/bias' influence on your daily life?

SunYoul would always share with us about his exercise routine. Sometimes he would update us on how far he has walked as a form of exercise. This may seem like a small matter but he actually influences me to stay healthy and to never forget to exercise. As a result, I am happy!

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

I get to meet many other HONEY10 from all over the world and actually get close to them. It's good to make new friends!

What is your biggest dream for your favorite group/bias aside from being Happy and Healthy?

As any other HONEY10 out there, my biggest and dream for UP10TION is for them to get their first win on music shows. Sooner or later, hopefully sooner, I hope this dream will come true. And for Sunyoul, I hope that he could be casted in even more musicals!

Is there particular information that you want to say to new fans because they mostly don't know about it?

According to the members, before debuting, SunYoul struggled quite a lot with his vocal. But look at him now, standing proud as our main vocal. He really has worked hard since day 1.

If you go to only one, would you go to a concert, fan meeting, or fan sign?

Concert for sure! It's good to have a close interaction in a fan sign or fan meeting but since the pandemic started, I have missed that concert adrenaline that can only be found at a...well...concert! Hope to attend their concert soon!

If you can spend a day with your bias, where will you go and what will you do?

Concert! SunYoul is a fan of many singers and groups, so it will be exciting to watch a concert together.

Do you have a dream subunit/unit?

To be honest, I have always imagined how amazing it will be if SunYoul can sing a duet with SeungSik from VICTON, let alone be in a unit with him. That would be awesome...and many people will surely love this combination.

Talented, Visual, High-tension, Distinct, Humble.

What about your bias do you relate to the most?

When SunYoul was a university student still, he would often talk to us about how 'challenging' it is to finish his assignments....and I can really relate to this 100% because I am a student too.

What do you think is the most underrated song by your favourite idol group/soloist?

'Magic' by UP10TION! Every time I listened to this, I always thought "How do most people not know that such a catchy song exists?". It's definitely a must-listen!

Would you like to see your bias group in variety shows? What type of variety show would you like them to do? (Camping, Travelling, Survival in Island, Military, Food Program).

Yes for sure! UP10TION have not been to a lot of variety shows, so it will be amazing to see them on one. A program related to travelling, food, and game/scavenger hunt sounds fun! These boys are naturally so funny, they would surely do well in any program.
