Studio Dragon Releases A Sustainability Report, Being First Among Korean Drama Production Companies

South Korea's renowned storyteller group, Studio Dragon, which brought us the acclaimed drama series "The Glory," is breaking new ground by releasing the first-ever "Sustainability Report" in the Korean drama production industry.

Driven by their mission to "Create a More Valuable World through Premium Storytelling" and a commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, Studio Dragon is now presenting "Dream With Dragon." This marks their first step towards pioneering sustainable management in the domestic drama industry. The sustainability report adheres to global standards and guidelines set forth by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards in 2021.

The report spotlights Studio Dragon's main dramas, each of which reflects important social values related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Notable titles include "Our Blues," which portrays the challenges faced by disabled individuals, "Mine," which addresses prejudices against sexual minorities, and "The Glory," which showcases solidarity among the underprivileged who stand up against school violence.

In their efforts to protect the environment, Studio Dragon is actively reducing waste generated during the construction and dismantling of filming sets. For example, they transformed a landfill into an open set for "Alchemy of Souls" through a partnership with Mungyeong City, offering visitors a firsthand experience of the drama and creating a tourist destination. Moreover, plans are in place to recycle sets from their upcoming drama, "When the Stars Gossip," for use in future productions and as tourist attractions.

Safety and well-being are also a top priority for Studio Dragon. They operate an Industrial Safety and Health Committee for drama production sites and collaborative partners, aiming to ensure the safety of employees. The report highlights the activities of the Safety Management Team, which was established in 2022. This team runs safety campaigns, including a reward system, to promote safety consciousness among co-producers, partner companies, and other entities involved in their projects. They also acknowledge and reward film sets that consistently adhere to safety regulations.

Before releasing the report, Studio Dragon achieved ISO 14001 certification for environmental management in June, a significant milestone in ESG management, awarded by the British Standards Institution.

Considering the immense influence the media industry has on the world, I truly empathize with the substantial interest demonstrated by investors and interested parties in Studio Dragon's endeavors toward sustainable management, as the leading K-Drama enterprise... Studio Dragon has achieved successful outcomes, including securing a key indicator for sustainable management—the ISO 14001 certification for environmental management—and is set to spearhead sustainable management to create a resilient ecosystem, positioning itself as a leader in the K-Drama industry.
SungHo Jang, CFO and Studio Dragon ESG Management Head Director

In summary, the "Dream with Dragon" sustainability report focuses on six key sustainability areas: promoting DEI culture through content, protecting human rights and cultivating a positive workplace, ensuring safety and health, strengthening compliance and ethical management, reducing waste generation and encouraging resource reuse, and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and energy management while establishing an environmental management system. Studio Dragon's pioneering efforts are set to make a significant impact in the Korean drama industry.
