The newly released "Duty After School" ticks a lot of boxes for watchability – the outstanding high school student cast, including Kim KiHae, Choi MoonHee and Lee Yeon, the mystery of the alien spheres and the ongoing efforts to save survivors are just some of the reasons – but the series’ real asset lies in the character of Lieutenant Lee ChoonHo (Shin HyunSoo). Lieutenant Lee proves time and time again that he is not only the saviour of the students; here are at least 3 reasons why Lieutenant Lee would be the perfect real-life partner-in-crime.

Note: This article contains spoilers.

Lieutenant Lee shows loyalty to those around him very early on, meaning that he would make a dedicated boyfriend. You only need to watch the way he stands by both Class 2’s teacher, Park EunYoung (Lim SeMi) and his fellow soldier Kim WonBin (Lee SoonWon) to witness first-hand his commitment, always remaining steadfast and providing a helping hand when the going gets tough. This also earns him the respect of those around him, particularly from his juniors, who look to their Platoon Leader for his loyal support. He even risks insubordination charges (and possible execution) to rescue his students, demonstrating he would go above and beyond to help a potential girlfriend.

Despite the ongoing high tension in the sci-fi drama, Lieutenant Lee still has opportunities to show his sense of humour and playful side. This is particularly illustrated during the flour fight of Episode 5 and his kindness towards No AeSeol (Lee Yeon). He does, however, seem surprisingly unaware of Cha SoYeon (Shin SooHyun)’s obvious crush on him, but comically and skillfully avoids her questioning of his life beyond the military. You could rest assured that as a boyfriend, Lieutenant Lee would know the exactly right time for work (and play!) and as his confident self, would have no qualms living his life to the full on the arm of his girlfriend.

Lieutenant Lee’s selflessness is a key theme throughout "Duty After School", making him prime boyfriend material. He puts his life on the line again and again, from using himself as a shield to providing covering fire to students as they seek shelter from the increasingly aggressive and organized spheres. While Lieutenant Lee’s selflessness is his most endearing quality, it could also be his biggest weakness. In the very least, a potential girlfriend would need to set firm boundaries around self-sacrifice and resisting the urge to try and save the day in an apocalyptic alien event.

Without a doubt, Lieutenant Lee would make an enviable boyfriend in real life. The cliff-hanger end of "Duty After School" Part 1 means that viewers will need to wait to see whether Lieutenant Lee can add indestructible to his list of traits and continue to make audiences swoon – and hopefully experience his own happily ever after.
