Just when we thought that the 2023 K-Drama roster could not get any better, a brand new webtoon-based drama announcement came around to blow our minds. We're talking about none other than "Duty After School" - a hugely popular thriller webtoon by Ilkwon Ha which is getting a K-Drama adaptation set to release in March. "Duty After School" tells the story of a sudden apocalyptic event where slimy alien creatures called "cells" invade the earth and pose a significant threat to mankind. The situation grows so severe that military power falls short, and the government announces the conscription of high school and university students in the reserve forces to fight the unknown evil. Once conscripted, the students must go through training and will then be sent to areas requiring surveillance and defense. The central story follows Kim ChiYeol (to be played by Kim KiHae), a senior at high school, and his classmates as they band together to save themselves and the world for extra credit.

Another important figure in the webtoon is Lee ChoonHo (to be played by Shin HyunSoo), the Lieutenant in charge of training the students in the third squadron, second platoon (or class 3-2). He is strict and reserved but cares about the students. The homeroom teacher of the same class, Park EunYoung (to be played by Im SeMi), helps the students maintain their rationale and prioritizes their safety before anything else. Soon, the kids find out about the real danger lurking right above their heads and must adapt to the situation with no warning. Some students, like Lee NaRa (to be played by Choi MoonHee), exhibit grit, while others succumb to the pressure of facing a literal war.

The narrative is explored in a mockumentary format, allowing the characters to introduce themselves and share their thoughts in confessional-style cutaway shots. This adds a layer of black comedy to an otherwise apocalyptic horror story, thereby making it even more enjoyable. In addition, despite the threatening environment, there are also elements of slice-of-life peppered throughout that enhance the reading experience. In addition, the sci-fi side of things will surely keep you on your toes as you navigate this new world along with the characters. From friendship and young love to tentacle attacks and evolving slime, "Duty After School" has it all.

Without a doubt, "Duty After School" is set to be one of the biggest productions of the year and has the potential to be a viral hit like "All Of Us Are Dead" and "Squid Game".
