Korean BLs made an impressive entry into the BL world back in 2020 with "Where Your Eyes Linger" and other releases that year. Since then, the scene has gradually grown and improved over the years, paving the way for various masterpieces to trend across social media everywhere. And once again, 2024 seems to be a great year for BL fans.

We've gathered the Korean BL web dramas announced for 2024. Some dramas in this list lack released information, but we try to update regularly.

1. "Love For Love's Sake"

Adapted from the webtoon "Love Supremacy Zone".

Summary: One day, a 29-year-old man gets trapped inside the body of a 19-year-old young student, an extra character from the novel that his sunbae was writing. A translucent window appears where he receives a mission—to make Cha YeonWoon happy within 300 days—and his life at stake as his penalty. Will he be able to survive, protect his loved ones, and fulfill his mission?

3. "Boys Be Brave"

Directed by Lim HyunHee, the same director as "Our Dating Sim". Adapted from the webtoon, "Roommates".

Summary: JinWoo, is a young man who finds himself living with his crush, KiSub, who entered his home uninvited and crashed on his couch for a little too long. The narrative also explores the relationship between Sunny and InHo, who hold onto a secret from their high school days.

4. "Secret Relationship"

The web drama is an adaption of the webtoon by the same name written by McQueen STUDIO.

Summary: DaOn is a smart, resourceful, and hardworking employee, trying to overcome his poverty. His cheap ways get on the nerve of his co-worker SeongHyun, who hates him. After a certain incident with poor parents, DaOn gets closer with SeongHyun, while he tries to settle his feelings for his previous tutor JaeMin. With emotions all mixed up and all the secrets, what will be DaOn's fate?

5. "Good Night To Get Drunk"

Adapted from the audio story "Good Night To Get Drunk".

Summary: JunHyuk and MinSeok grew up taking care of each other. Eventually, the two go on different paths. Years pass, and one day, when JunHyuk arrives at home one night after a lecture, he finds MinSeok on the sofa in his living room. JunHyuk's eyes locked on him with an awkward atmosphere.

6. "Eccentric Romance"

The same company that produced the BL "Peach of Time" is in charge of a second Thai-Korean BL drama "Eccentric Romance" ("기이한로맨스").

Summary: It is the campus romance of two friends from the same club: the cold Sung Hoon and the shy and cute Jay. They encounter a mysterious murder case and look for the culprit.

7. "HeeSu In Class 2"

Summary: The drama is based on a popular webtoon of the same name. The story is about the youthful romance of HeeSu, an ordinary 18-year old boy, and his neighbor who has a secret.

8. "Love Is Like A Cat"

Summary: "Love is Like a Cat" is a Thai-Korean romance between P'Uno, who got trauma and is now scared of animals, and Lee DaeByeol, working as a director in kindergarten.

11. "Love In The Big City"

Cast: Nam YoonSu, Lee SooKyung.

Summary: An audacious tale of two roommates, one a homosexual man and another a heterosexual woman. Through the eyes of Mi-ae begins Goyoung’s clumsy love story. Stories of laughter, tears, and wounds between a mother in denial of his gender identity and a lover unable to escape societal judgment. Goyoung finally meets a pure love like no other, Gyu-ho, but has no choice but to let him go. With Kyu-ho gone, Go-young follows a stranger to Thailand and spends a late monsoon vacation. Reminiscing about the good old days that can never be retrieved, he achieves complete personal growth.

12. "Jazz For Two"

Summary: TaeYi meets SeHeon, the new transfer student, in the music room. How dare SeHeon play TaeYi's brother’s song? “If I ever catch you playing the piano again...that’ll be the end of you.” And with that begins TaeYi and SeHeon's story, as unpredictable and visceral as jazz.

13. "Please Teach Me"

Summary: "Please Teach Me" is a collection of BL shorts consisting of 50 episodes of one minute each telling a charming and heartwarming romance between top idol Do-yoon and, the idol infamous for his poor acting, Shi-woo, as they participate in an acting workshop together

14. "Actor:eal"

15. "Gray Current"

Cast: Lee JaeBin, and Jang WooYoung.

Summary: Cha SooHyuk is focused only on his survival, without any grand goal. He reunites with Lee YoonDae, who he was very close with. Yoon-Dae was living with his girlfriend but now has nowhere to go. They end up living together.

16. "WuJu Bakery"

Cast: Jeff Satur, Barcode Tinnasit, Q (Jun In Kyu) , DiOn.

Summary: A small bakery was re-established after all kinds of hardship in a small old town that holds precious memories with his parents before his long-awaited opening ceremony. A spaceship crash-landed, and the bakery was ruined... An alien and the handsome boss sat down in the bakery where a chaotic living together had begun. At the same time, the aliens who have been hiding in various parts of the city in search of them are revealed.

It is assumed that this was the outfit Ryu DaIn was spotted in on her date with Lee ChaeMin. The actress is sporting denim on denim, which is quite a popular trend these days. However, you can't just pair any two denim items together.

With all the amazing webtoons-based dramas that have been released in the past couple of years, we have only become more excited about upcoming K-Dramas linked with webtoons.

The webtoon "The Mermaid I Loved" is a special case because the story was first written as a script for a drama production. The drama production is on its way and the webtoon was pre-released. The drama's production company, Group Eight, thought that in releasing it first as a webtoon they could showcase some of the various deep sea adventures of the story and also help garner attention for the drama.

The romance fantasy adventure webtoon “The Mermaid I Loved” ("내가 사랑한 물고기," literal translation, “The Fish I Loved”), written by Cosmic Bom Bom and Bubal (우주봄봄 and 부발), tells the story of a man whose intermittent transformations into a mermaid become increasingly uncontrollable as he experiences the emotion of love and spends time with a woman who he finds himself more and more attracted to. The season 1 of the webtoon ended on March 13th with 31 episodes.

Given the webtoon’s popularity, Group Eight is looking forward the positive effect the webtoon will have on the upcoming drama’s viewership. They have built a solid portfolio with dramas based on webtoons like "Taxi Driver", "My ID is Gangnam Beauty" and "A Good Day To Be A Dog". Among their awaited projects is the reboot of the popular drama "Princess Hours" (2006).

Currently, there are no actors cast for “The Mermaid I Loved”. Fans of the webtoon are waiting for the announcement of the cast. We can already think of actors and actresses who would be perfect for the roles!

We at Kpopmap have thought up a cast of actors who would suit this drama amazingly.

 

1. Sim Kai (심카이), a mermaid and 3rd generation chaebol

Sim Kai is the lead male character. He discovered he was a mermaid 12 years ago and he pretends to be a human.

When he shares physical touch with a woman, his fish scales begin to appear and he transforms back into his mermaid form. Because of this, he avoids all contact with women and has been single his whole life.

But due to his handsome looks, he has a lot of girls chasing after him, so he hired YaNa to pretend to be his girlfriend. However, he can’t help himself from having physical contact with YaNa even if it means he won’t be able breathe.

Kai is the son of the jewelry brand Inoroo, or 3rd generation chaebol, but he is not interested in the family business and instead prefers performing as a mermaid at the aquarium.

The actor must possess features suitable for long hair and a muscular physique to be able to portray a mermaid. He should exude charm and look dazzling in a suit, while also being capable of conveying a mix of cynicism, cuteness, and panic in his expressions. Comfort with underwater filming is also mandatory.

Moon SangMin, WEi's Kim YoHan, Baek SungChul, Kim MyungSoo (INFINITE's L), and Chae JongHyeop could be a good match.

Not only would they look stunning with long hair and looks amazing in suits, but their facial features would perfectly match the character's. Beyond their physical attributes, all five actors possess the talent and ability to convey Kai through the right facial expressions. The genre of fantasy romance suits them impeccably. Each actor would bring their unique colors and charms to the character, making him stand out on screen. Additionally, we can anticipate excellent chemistry with the lead actress.

2. Jung YaNa (정야나), an easy-going part-time student

Jung YaNa (24 years old) is the lead female character. She is a student who works a part-time job and has an easy-going personality.

She accidentally kisses Kai when she meets him for the first time, and shocked to see him suddenly fall very sick, she calls the ambulance. She ends up more shocked when she sees him put his face into a dirty bucket of water used for cleaning.

The actress should possess a mix of cuteness and strength, capable of expressing a wide range of emotions, and especially comedy. The character experiences rapid and extreme changes in emotions, so the actress should be able to show these transitions convincingly. Additionally, she should look just like a regular student, but be able to become a stunning lady with expensive clothes.

Kang MinAh, WJSN's Bona (Kim JiYeon), Chae SooBin, Girl's Day's HyeRi, and Seor InA could be a good match.

All five actresses have demonstrated their talented acting and are well-suited for a character like YaNa. Each of them possesses the ability to portray the youthful, cute, and fiery vibes of the female lead character. Comedy and expressive acting would not be an issue for any of them, so it would be a smooth portrayal of the character without overdoing it and making viewers laugh. No need to mention that they would all bring great chemistry with the lead actor! Being a romance, it is crucial.
