Among the many cute romantic comedies and tense historical series, psychological thriller "Pyramid Game" has made its explosive premiere. In a span of four episodes, it has effectively proven itself as an outstanding new show, keeping audiences right at the very edge of their seats. The K-Drama features a cast of WJSN's BoNa, Jang DaA, Shin SeulKi, Ryu DaIn, and Kang NaEon.

"Pyramid Game" is set in a prestigious high school where one class remains secluded from the rest and conducts a popularity vote called the "Pyramid Game". When Sung SooJi (BoNa) transfers into that class, her world turns upside down as she starts off at the very bottom and becomes a victim to legal school violence. She eventually teams up with Myung JaEun (Ryu DaIn) and others in order to put a stop to the "Pyramid Game" once and for all.

The TVING drama is a rollercoaster ride that audiences willingly take. The twists and turns are plentiful, but that's what will make "Pyramid Game" such a captivating experience. Diving into it, there's a lot of concepts to consider as SooJi and crew attempt to dismantle the system.

Here are just a few themes we've noticed that "Pyramid Game" has touched upon so far.

        Note: this article contains spoilers.

Early on you start to realize that you never truly know a person. Despite being amicable and forming what seemed to be a good bond with her classmates, SooJi was eventually betrayed just for a couple votes. Then there's Baek HaRin (Jang DaA) who shows that despite her sweet demeanor, she possesses an inner wickedness that would make anyone tremble in fear. This frightening duality shows the need for our protagonists to remain on their toes, lest they fall victim to more physical pain.

        2. The Effects Of School Violence

Prior to SooJi's arrival at the school, there was another who fell victim to the "Pyramid Game": Jo WooRi (Joo BoYoung). Due to the constant bullying, she eventually dropped out and was made unable to leave the safety of her bedroom. The TVING drama looks to showcase the dire effects school violence has and how it can cripple a person in both body and mind.

While some parts are dramatized for theatrical effect, the act of bullying still remains a very real concern in various parts of the world. "Pyramid Game" remind us of this fact and also serves as a source of inspiration to stand up against perpetrators regardless of status.

        3. Opposing A Set System

Although the "Pyramid Game" is horrible by all means, everyone in the class seems to have gotten used to it, fully accepting the game as a permanent part of their lives. While it started off as a simple game, it eventually evolved into what it is today — a chilling display of a person's carnal desires.

Although SooJi tries to live with this injustice, she makes a firm vow to abolish the system and concocts a plan to do so. She makes great strides to secure the end of the "Pyramid Game" once and for all.

        4. Value Of Friendship

The bottom rank is a lonely place, as not only do you become a punching bag for the entire class, but you're essentially shunned by everyone else. SooJi experiences this first hand, but makes active attempts to befriend Myung JaEun and others in order to rise to safety. Although she's insincere and only desires friendship for personal gain, there comes a moment where this all changes.

Friendship starts to blossom between herself, Myung JaEun, and Pyo JiAe (Kim SeHee). In the midst of nail-biting suspense, heartwarming new relationships start to forge, acting as a source of light in the dreadful darkness. While not the main focal point of the drama, it adds a nice touch, showcasing the humanness of making friends and it being essential to survive.
