7 Amazing K-Pop Soloists That Deserve Your Attention

HYBE Labels' Youtube

A majority of the K-Pop community was originally introduced to the medium through K-Pop idol groups with performances full of energy and visual spectacles. As much as you try to focus on one particular thing, there are a hundred more things happening at once. From the exceptional choreography to set design and/or music video cinematography, part of the appeal of K-Pop groups is the fact that they're an experience themselves.

However, not all music to come out of the Korean entertainment industry is necessarily geared towards the same kind of experience. Soloists make up an essential part of this world and despite the fact that they're just one person, these artists can command the stage like nobody's business. We all know how incredible IU  is at making the stage and the stadium her own little world and how effectively Jay Park  can get the whole audience hyped up. However, there are some more soloists who are criminally underrated that deserve your attention. After all, who doesn't love discovering hidden gems?

sogumm

The latest addition to AOMG, Sogumm is only a rookie when it comes to soloists but her talent is truly magnanimous. Her voice isn't conventional in the least and neither is her aesthetic, which makes her stand out in the overwhelming crowd of new talent that crops up every day in K-Pop. Her lyricism too is unique and meaningful yet the vibe she presents, leans towards a mysterious otherworldliness.  As a matter of fact, it is especially refreshing to see her do her own thing regardless of what might be popular or accepted in the mainstream.

DVWN

DVWN is an indie gem to say the least and while started out independently, he is now signed to HYBE Labels, earlier known as BigHit Entertainment. Something that makes DVWN truly unique is the fact that he does not abandon his authenticity and the original sound that he has made into his signature. Despite being part of the biggest music company in the world at the moment, he's still honest to himself about his roots and the music he aims to create. While his new music is undoubtedly brilliant, his older music is definitely one of a kind.

LambC

LambC is a significant name in the Korean entertainment industry and for good reason too. However, with the surge of newer artists, he has become woefully underrated both in Korea and internationally. His musicality is worth high praise and his ability to write and compose the loveliest melodies is truly inimitable. His vocals are beautifully transformative and soothing to listen to, perfect for a sleepless night. Lucky for us, LambC will be making a comeback very soon!

Punchnello

While Punchnello is quite popular and renowned in the K-Hip Hop scene, he definitely deserves more mainstream attention. One could also say that the mainstream audience deserves to experience Punchnello's music. A fierce rapper on the one hand and a talented composer/lyricist/vocalist on the other, there's nothing that this artist can't pull off. When he meshes the two together, it is nothing short of a blessing to the ears.

CHEEZE

CHEEZE's music is youth and fluttering, beautifully sonorous and cheery, perfect for a picnic playlist. However, she's also one of the most underrated artists in the scene. Her genres can range from groovy R&B to pop and her music is very well suited for K-Drama OSTs. The range of emotions she can deliver through her music is also one of her strongest points, without a doubt.

pH-1

With a strikingly distinct voice and also a unique flow in rapping, pH-1 makes the best bops, perfect for any mood whatsoever. His music is upbeat and casual most of the time which is also refreshing in a sense and allows a listener to escape to a world with no bother or stress. He also has an eye for featuring artists and thus, his collaborations are almost always en pointe.

Mokyo

You might know Mokyo as a talented producer and rapper but his vocals too, are no joke. There's deep meaning behind his lyrics and they touch a tender well of emotions which are hard to tap into naturally. His deep and husky voice adds a whole new dimension to his music, making it hit different. He's rather underrated both in the K-Hip Hop and the mainstream scene and there's no doubt that if more people were exposed to his music (which he admittedly keeps on the down low with minimal promotions), Mokyo would blow up in no time.
