Recently, it was confirmed that Suzy will be leading the webtoon-based drama "The Girl Downstairs", also known as "Doona!" alongside Yang SeJong. "Doona!" is a light-hearted yet meaningful webtoon about two young people who cross paths and change each other's lives forever. What follows is, in the main character's own words, an "exciting", "heart-aching" and "heart-throbbing" story.
Suzy will be playing the role of Lee DooNa, an idol superstar and main vocalist of the fictional girl group SWEET DREAM, who abruptly decides to retire and moves into the same student housing as Lee Joon (Yang SeJong), a freshman at Minsong University who studies nano-engineering. The webtoon introduces DuNa and Joon as romantically involved but not partners in the beginning before taking us back in time to bring us up to speed.
DuNa used to be a beloved idol but a year ago from the present timeline of the webtoon, she announced her retirement from the music industry. 6 months later, she showed up in front of Joon as a student of Theater and Film at Minsong University. DuNa is 20 years old and Joon is 19. DuNa likes smoking flavoured cigarettes and Joon isn't quite interested in girl groups.
Joon has a one-sided crush on his old classmate, Kim Margo but cannot help his curiosity towards his downstairs neighbour DuNa. After one strange encounter where Joon finally learned of DuNa's identity, their dynamic changed forever. He tried to act indifferent so as to accommodate DuNa and stay away from trouble but as far away as he pushed her, the closer she drew him in.
With some brilliantly well-written and relatable characters, youthful energy, and classic slice-of-life aspects, the story of "Doona!" has a mysterious and enchanting quality that is hard to miss. It will be interesting to see how that charm translates on screen.
