        The Faker Club

Are you the type of K-Pop fan who likes to stan musical geniuses before they go mainstream? Do indie artists make up the majority of your go-to K-Music playlist? Then you could not have missed the extraordinary music of from20 and HELLO GLOOM, who make up THE FAKER CLUB!

For those who might not know, THE FAKER CLUB is a creative collective comprising from20 and HELLO GLOOM that focuses on a diverse range of artistic fields such as music, fashion, video production and more. The core value of THE FAKER CLUB lies in its freedom of creative expression sans restrictive boundaries that tend to characterize the music industry at large. So, in turn, their music resonates with the lived experiences of fans all over the world, lending comfort and warmth to millions.

Drawing from their experience of idol life (from20, a.k.a Kim RaeHwan was a member of BIGSTAR, and HELLO GLOOM, a.k.a Na UngJae is a member of IMFACT), THE FAKER CLUB aims to combine their strengths as creatives and idols to sincerely communicate with fans through music that is self-produced, telling the honest stories of the artists. In particular, from20 is not only a singer-songwriter but also the Video Director of THE FAKER CLUB, whereas HELLO GLOOM takes on the role of Artist/Producer.

Recently, from20 made his much-awaited comeback with the highly successful single 'Bad Revenge', and on the other hand, HELLO GLOOM is gearing up for his next release 'EYES ON ME', slated for release on May 28, 2023. In light of this fantastic news, Kpopmap had the incredible opportunity of sitting down with from20 and HELLO GLOOM to dive deep into their visionary artistry, creative processes, and more.

So, join us as we explore the depths of THE FAKER CLUB, and get to know these young geniuses!

from20 and HELLO GLOOM, a very warm welcome to Kpopmap! We are so happy to have you with us today to talk about your latest and upcoming releases. Before we move on, I’d love to know the meaning of your stage names. Can you tell us how and why you created these unique names?

The name "HELLO GLOOM" represents a bright greeting to the emotion of sadness. I personally tend to feel this emotion quite deeply, but I wanted to approach it with a lighter mindset instead of taking it too heavily. The name is meant to portray an artist who expresses both bright and dark, sad emotions through their music - "HELLO" representing a bright greeting and "GLOOM" representing a slightly darker, sadder mood.
        HELLO GLOOM
from20 is a name that represents the beginning of my music career. I came to Seoul to start my music journey when I was 20 years old (Korean age). Since then, my music journey began and I wanted to remember the confidence and passion I had at that time, so I chose this name.

        The Faker Club

How did you two meet and what is the origin story of The Faker Club?

We met on a program hosted by KBS, a broadcasting company in Korea. We quickly became close friends as we were drawn to each other's talents and charms from the very beginning!
        from20
Whenever I wanted to do something new, I wanted to do it with from20. I loved his vocals and music, and I thought he would do well no matter what he did. We started doing things together just for fun, but now it feels like we have many responsibilities. I'm really grateful that we started this journey together.

        The Faker Club

Through The Faker Club, you are creating a wind of change and novelty in the K-Pop industry, but before anything else, your goal is to offer comfort, acceptance, and belonging through your music. Can you tell us more about your purpose and why your label is called “The Faker Club”?

We hope that our growth and the process of creating something will be a source of hope and comfort for someone. We are just ordinary boys with big dreams, so if people see us working towards our goals and think, "I want to do something like that too, I can do it too," that would be great.

THE FAKER CLUB actually represents our dreams that we couldn't pursue because of reality. We always had big dreams, but we were too busy saying "I want to do this!" and lying about what we would do because of our individual situations. However, we started this company with the mindset of "Let's do it for real this time" and we hope that the process of our growth and creating something will be healing for people.

        The Faker Club

How do you think your idol background has helped you as creatives?

To begin with, maybe I have a good face care routine? (laughs) That's just a joke. I think the biggest help for me was realizing how precious our fans are. Knowing that someone loves us and how grateful we are for that love has been the biggest help for me. As a producer, it has also been a time for me to study what kind of music people enjoy.
        from20

[For from20] Your latest single ‘Bad Revenge’ is the third and final installment of your “Revenge Trilogy”. Did you draw inspiration for this single from your own real-life experiences?

The three-part revenge trilogy consisting of 'WEOL', 'Chemical', and 'Bad Revenge' is based on my personal experiences. Looking back now, I was in such tough love (laughs). However, as the lyrics of this song suggest, I was able to create even better songs (Cooler Records)* thanks to the hardships. It's a perfect revenge 🙂
        from20

*from20 is referring to a line from 'Bad Revenge':
"I Thought We Would Last Forever / Cried But I Made A Banger / Thank You Now I'm With Cooler Records / I've Been On A Roller Coaster / Yeah We're Better Not Together"

[For from20] How do you feel after concluding the “Revenge Trilogy”? Do you think expressing yourself through your music has had a healing effect on you like it has on your fans?

Yes, for sure. As an artist, I believe the most blessed aspect is the ability to express anything, either good or bad, through music. It's a great source of healing for me personally. I hope my music can also bring comfort to my fans.

        The Faker Club

[For HELLO GLOOM] Your music prioritizes inclusivity and a celebration of one’s own identity. Was there a particular turning point in your life where you realized that this was your artistic calling?

First of all, I am grateful that many people loved 'Dancing In The Dark', which came after a lot of contemplation. I wanted to convey the message that I would accept and love even my dark inner self, and I wanted to say this to everyone. I wanted to say, "Let's love and live with each other no matter who we are." I feel that my calling is still to create music and to share it with people, which makes me feel the happiest. I also think about what music and stories to share every day, and sometimes I even think that I might be a genius (laughs). I feel like this is really my calling.
        HELLO GLOOM

[For HELLO GLOOM] Can you tell us about 3 points we should look forward to in the music video of your upcoming song ‘EYES ON ME’?

I wanted to express an irresistible attraction through 'EYES ON ME'. The music video contains many of my emotions. The three keywords that come to mind for me are "cute-sexy", "freshness" and "dreaminess". Recently, my nickname at our company is "cute-sexy".
        HELLO GLOOM

Both from20 and HELLO GLOOM have very distinct styles and musical aesthetics. Do you have any plans for collaborations in the future?

I really want to work on an album together with from20. I think it would be really fun, and I'm actually more excited about it than my own album. If a lot of people want it, I'd like to work on it soon too.
        HELLO GLOOM

Finally, do you have any message for fans all over the world who love and support you endlessly?

Of course, we will always run towards you if you want us to. And as much as you love us, I love you even more. So I hope you always have a happy day with our music.
