A VVS From The US Talks About Her Favorite Group VANNER And Her Bias HyeSeong

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other's stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

Tiffany from the US is the next fan to answer our questions. She is a fan of VANNER, and particularly of HyeSeong! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

I’m Tiffany! I’m 23 and from the USA. I’m a huge VVS (Vanner fan) and my ultimate bias is HyeSeong!

How and when did you become a VVS?

I had known about VANNER for a while and I really liked their song, 'Form'. But the big moment for me was when I saw they were coming to Lawrence, KS for their 2022 tour. I bought tickets as soon as I could. This led me to fall down a rabbit hole of discovering each of the members and their personalities as well as their no-skip discography. After seeing them live, it felt like my life had changed so much because of how they connected with their fans. I had never felt a love and appreciation like that before.

What are the reasons why you love VANNER?

Well, aside from the fact that their music is perfection (and they write their lyrics and do their own choreography), VANNER works so hard for their dream. They don't keep it as a secret about the fact that they work part time jobs to fund the group. It makes me sad that they have to do it but it really does show how much VANNER and VVS means to them. They inspire me every day to work hard for the things and people I love. If they can do it then so can I.

Who caught your attention at first and why?

At first it was Gon. I think he’s the one that always catches VVS’ eyes first. He’s so charismatic and really knows how to own a performance and control your mind. He’s insane!

Who is your bias, and why?

HyeSeong is my bias! I never thought it could happen since he’s not really my bias type. I went into the concert biasing Gon and TaeHwan, and I thought they would own my heart forever. But after meeting HyeSeong and seeing him in person, I saw how pure he was and how much he enjoyed himself on stage. He was an idol that was unlike anyone I had ever seen before. It really softened my heart to him. Then, I did my hi-wave and he blew me a kiss so I knew I was done-for after that.

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

A title track I would recommend would be 'Rollin'. It’s their most recent comeback and it’s just a fun summery song with a cute concept that I think everyone needs to listen to. As someone who doesn’t go for this style in K-Pop, it really says something when I say it’s my favorite title track of theirs.

A B-side track I would recommend would be 'LACHATA'. This song is the definition of perfection. The vocals are on point, the raps are impeccable, and the groove really gets you dancing. This was my most played track of 2022 and for good reason. This song is a gift and deserves to be on repeat. I swear I’ll probably play this at my wedding and funeral.

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

There’s so many things I could recommend from HyeSeong since he loves interacting with VVS so much. He used to do weekly lives called 혜소통통 (Hyesotongtong) and most of them can be found on YouTube now. It was Hye’s time to really talk with fans. He would talk about so many different things with VVS that it really felt like you were having a convo with him. Sometimes he would even have karaoke sessions. They were so fun and I hope we can see more of his lives in 2023 because I really miss them.
As for covers, my absolutely favorite cover is his cover of DAY6’s 'So Let’s Love'. DAY6 is one of his favorite groups so you can tell he crafted it carefully. Also, this was shot in his room and its just so peaceful and it makes me so happy. HyeSeong’s voice has a way of soothing the soul like no other. It’s so atmospheric.

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

"Hwan TV" is the place to go for any VANNER content! This is TaeHwan’s vlog series on YouTube. Most of the episodes are short but it’s such a fun way to explore their personalities and how they interact with each other. They’re so fun and so comforting.

I also really like heyitsfeiii’s "Whisper Challenge" video. It’s so funny! Like the way they joke around with each other is just so fun to watch. It’s short so I think it’s a great introduction to their personalities!

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

I love these lyrics because they’re singing about this person who basically makes it easier to move through life. It’s literally how I feel about VANNER. They came to me in a time when everything felt uncertain and because of them, I have so much hope. I’ll love them forever because of it.

What is your best souvenir with VANNER until now?

I have so many memories with VANNER last year that I hold dearly to my heart. But, I think my favorite was when I did a group call with them and they dropped the phone in the beginning. It was so chaotic and funny. It was such a precious moment to share a laugh with all of them.

Can you describe HyeSeong in only one word?

Sunshine.

For me, HyeSeong is…

My joy, peace, love. He is literally my piece of sunshine.

If you could spend the day with VANNER, what would you want to do together?

I would go to an Amusement Park for sure! There’s a "Hwan TV" episode where they went to Six Flags and it looked like they had the time of their life (except TaeHwan who seemed like he was suffering a little). It seems like it would be a fun experience to share full of laughs and chaos!

Can you recall a moment where you cried/laughed with HyeSeong?

Oh my goodness I have so many moments where I’ve shared a laugh with Hye. When I first started doing fancalls, I would open them by doing cheesy little pickup lines. He’s a bit of a flirt with VVS so I thought he would appreciate it. There was one I did where I was like “Oh my god. Did I just enter the gates of heaven? ‘Cause I’m talking to an angel.” And then he just starts posing and dancing. We both were laughing and giggling. It was such a funny but sweet moment.

Name 1 quality in your bias that you wish you had.

It’s so hard to pick just one thing about HyeSeong that I love but I think the thing that inspires me the most is his passion. Anytime, he’s on stage he just seems like he’s having so much fun. When I first saw them live, I noticed just how much he really shined on stage. You can tell performing means so much to him. I want to be as passionate about something like that.

What is VANNER/HyeSeong’s influence on your daily life?

These boys have given me so much happiness. On bad days, all I have to do is turn on VANNER and it feels like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I’ve also gained a lot of confidence in myself thanks to HyeSeong. I always want to be better and do better because of him. He inspires me so much every day.
Also VANNER has given me a lot of creative inspiration. Because of them, I have done fan projects, art, and even written some poems about them. After I saw them live, I felt this spark that I had not felt in a long time. I’m so happy that I can be creative and be inspired by people who mean a lot to me.

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

I think a big misunderstanding for smaller groups in general is that they don’t make good music because they’re not from a big company. It’s not true though and so many smaller groups (VANNER included) make some of the best songs K-Pop has to offer. But they just don’t get appreciated enough because they don’t have the label or recognition. I just wish people would give these smaller groups a chance. VANNER is too good for people to still not know who they are so I hope you can give them a chance!
