There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other' stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

The next fan to answer our questions is a FANTASY (a fan of SF9). She is from the US. Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello, I’m a Filipina FANTASY from the US who has so much love and support for SF9.

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I watched "Extraordinary You" and "She Would Never Know’"and that’s how I became a fan of RoWoon but it wasn’t until I watched "The King’s Affection" when I started stanning SF9 which was around October 2021. After seeing how good he was in acting and how much he improved, I thought maybe I should also see how he is as an idol. Not only did I fall in love with him more but I also fell in love with the rest of the members.

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

A lot of people would agree that SF9 has the best visuals. Of course that’s one of the reasons but I didn’t come here just because I thought they’re handsome. I’m here because I’ve come to love their songs. They’re multi-talented and I’ve also seen their acting in dramas too. Some of the members have also been casted in musicals too or are currently doing a musical which I’m very proud of because they deserve more recognition, not just as a group but also as individuals.
I love how even when they’re tired and busy from their schedules, they never fail to make time and communicate with FANTASY. I could also see how they genuinely care for each other especially for their fans which is why I’m glad that I joined the fandom. There was not a single moment where I felt I didn’t belong ever since I became a FANTASY.

Who caught your attention at first and why?

RoWoon, DaWon, and Chani because of K-Dramas.
RoWoon caught my attention because of "Extraordinary You". DaWon because I saw him for the first time on "Doom at Your Service" and Chani because of "True Beauty" and "Sky Castle."

Who is your bias, and why?

That’s a tough question because I love all of them just the same. Every member is pretty much my bias because they all have their unique qualities. They give FANTASY comfort in different ways that makes it harder for us to just pick one bias. But if I must pick just one member, then I’d say RoWoon because I really love his acting! Especially in his current drama "Tomorrow." His character in that drama is just so different from the past dramas he was in. He really improved a lot.

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

I really love ‘RPM’ from their 7th mini album and ‘Good Guy’ from their first full album.

‘Love Again’ and ‘Memory’ from their B-side track. All of their songs are great so please do check them out if you haven’t!

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

OST from "The King’s Affection" ’No Goodbye In Love’ sung by RoWoon. It’s also his first OST and I hope that he gets more chances to sing K-Drama OSTs and showcase his talent, same goes for the other members.

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

Many would agree that this is one of SF9’s best performances on stage. I recommend ‘Move’ which was one of their performances from “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR." They did amazing and they really nailed it!

SF9 ‘Good Guy’ Part Switch version. I really enjoy watching videos of SF9 dancing to another group members’ part because it becomes chaotic and funny!

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

I really love the lyrics from ‘Like the Hands Held Tight’.
“Like the hands held tightly, I love you
Like my entire body is breaking
Even the ripping pain

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

Since I’m still kinda new to the fandom, what really stuck to me was during one of their V LIVEs for SF9’s 5th anniversary, they mentioned that no matter how long you’ve been a fan, whether it’s from since they debuted or even if you just became a fan right now, you’re a FANTASY.

What is your favorite group/bias' influence on your daily life?

They bring happiness to my life. They’ve become one of my motivations and inspirations to do better and to never give up.

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

Since I joined the fandom, I’ve met some wonderful people. FANTASYs are very welcoming and have always been supportive of each other.

For you, what is your bias' best stage outfits until now? Please share a picture or fan cam.

I really LOVED their stage outfit from when they performed ‘SHH,’ ‘RPM,’ and ‘Dreams’ on the last day of their IMPERFECT concert! I loved their choreography for those songs too!

What is your biggest dream for your favorite group/bias aside from being Happy and Healthy?

I wish that they would go on a world tour and get more wins in the future! I want them to gain more popularity too and for more people to stream their music because they’re really good!

If you go to only one, would you go to a concert, fan meeting, or fan sign?

I'd love to go to all of them but if I had to pick just one, then I’d choose the concert because I do want to see them perform and sing live in front of me.

Do you have a dream subunit/unit? (It can be with a fellow member or another K-Pop idol).

I really want the 96 liners, ZuHo and RoWoon to be a subunit.

Can you recall a moment where you cried/laughed with your bias?

I cried during the last day of the Imperfect concert. I watched it online and towards the end, I started crying because the eldest members announced that they would be enlisting and I saw the other members holding back their tears too. I really felt how much SF9 loves SF9 and no one misses SF9 more than SF9.

What is one thing that you think is unique about your bias/bias group?

They’re the only K-Pop group I’m stanning at the moment but what I think is unique about SF9 is that they always talk to their fans. It hasn’t been long since the two oldest members left for their military service. I love how the other members would always try to come on V LIVE especially on Mondays (when we get Bin,us) to fill in for the ones who left. They’re all busy with their schedules but they really do make time for the fans and they make sure to give us an update everyday about what they’re doing or what they’ve been up to.

Would you like to see your bias group in variety shows? What type of variety show would you like them to do?

Any type of variety show would be fine as long as we can get more contents of SF9 together.

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

This isn’t just about my favorite group but for every group in general. I think it’s time that K-Pop fans, regardless of which fandom they belong to, should just enjoy K-Pop. Stop comparing and criticizing groups, calling one group better than the other. Let’s also avoid slandering and making hateful comments about other groups. I believe that every group/idol is amazing and they all deserve the love and support from their fans. Let’s just wish them success and for every K-Pop group to shines in their own way. Let’s also respect each other's preferences when it comes to the type of music we like and the group(s) we want to stan.
