Kpopmap Fan Interview: A Filipino Dong-ari Talks About Her Favorite Group DKZ And Her Bias JongHyeong

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other' stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

Maria is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from the Philippines and is a fan of DKZ, and particularly of JongHyeong. Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hi! My name is Maria and I am living in the Philippines.

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I saw them in a music show called “Simply Kpop'', that time way back in 2019 DKZ (formerly known as Dongkiz) performed 'NOM' as their pre-debut song. DKZ caught my interest and started to support them.

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

DKZ is the first group that I love and that got me into the K-Pop world. DKZ has a unique concept (more on cute concept). They are very energetic/cheerful when dancing on stage and their song is really good.

Who caught your attention at first and why?

I am going to be honest - the first member that really caught my attention is WonDae, a former member of the group. He was so mature, a very caring man, had a good voice and was very handsome too.

Who is your bias, and why?

It’s JongHyeong! He has something in his appearance that attracts me the most, he was the maknae before and now he is the leader. JongHyeong is funny, kind, cute, good at dancing, good at singing and always comforting the members.

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

I like to recommend 'Universe' and 'Complete Me'. Listen to this song when you are in love with someone.

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

KyoungYoon's cover of The Black Skirts' 'Who Do You Love', one of my favorite song covers ever. And the first V Live of the 3 new members of DKZ “SE.MIN.GI YAP!”.

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

JaeChan wishes for the year 2022: “I want to earn more money like winning lottery, pension lottery, this kind of luck… just kidding (laughs). I hope we’re more famous next year."

What is your favorite group/bias' influence on your daily life?

I was so grateful to meet DKZ in my life. I have supported them since pre-debut and watched them grow. Thanks to DKZ, they bring me happiness at my lowest time.

What type of concept do you prefer: cute, dark, sexy, etc?

Dark and sexy concept.

What is your best souvenir with your favorite group until now?

When the two members KyoungYoon and Jaechan read my comment on V Live, they sang my favorite song ('Complete Me'). I was really happy that they sang my favorite song before they ended the live.

Can you share with readers the first ever picture you've saved of your bias on your phone?

Can you describe your bias in only one word?

For me, my bias is my role model and a great leader.

If you could spend the day with them, what would you want to do together?

I would love to go with them to a picnic, eating our favorite foods, playing with our guitar, and I want to sing with them.

Name a variety show/content show that you loved seeing your bias on? Tell us why.

DKZ Mafia Dance. Someday, I would love to see DKZ at a concert, video call or in a fanmeeting.

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

When the company (Dongyo Entertainment) posted on twitter, they announced that one of the members, JaeChan will act in a BL Series together with Park SeoHam. Non-fans were very disappointed and started bashing. JaeChan told the company that he wants to try it and accept that drama project without hesitation. You can watch his interview here:
