3 Solid Reasons Why We're Convinced That Jeong JinMan (Lee DongWook) Is Still Alive In "A Shop For Killers"

          Disney+

One of the hottest K-Dramas on air at the moment, heading into its final week, is Lee DongWook and Kim HyeJun's Disney+ K-Drama "A Shop For Killers". With the premise of a young woman being plunged into a world of arms and assassins after the mysterious passing of her uncle, this K-Drama has achieved high popularity and critical acclaim alike.

The aforementioned uncle in "A Shop For Killers" is Jeong JinMan, played by Lee DongWook. Jeong JinMan is pronounced dead in the very first episode. However, the circumstances around his death are highly suspicious, especially since it is declared to be suicide. However, before his niece, Jeong JiAn (played by Kim HyeJun) can come to terms with it, she is attacked by a hoard of assassins, determined to bring her down. Why? Because of a shopping mall - the killers' shopping mall.

Now, as the plot of "A Shop For Killers" is based on Jeong JinMan's death, it may be obvious that he is, indeed, dead. However, we are a generation of theorists (read: delulu is the solulu), so we're convinced that Jeong JinMan is alive. Check out 3 solid reasons why we think so!

          Spoiler Alert!

          Content Warning: Mentions of Suicide

Note: This article is based on speculation.

          1. No One Actually Saw Him Die

In "A Shop For Killers", Jeong JinMan apparently committed suicide after being tricked by Bae JongMin (Park JiBin). When JongMin found him, he was lying visibly unconscious in the bathtub, which led JongMin to believe that he must have passed away. Neither did JongMin actually see JinMan harm himself, nor did he dispose of his body immediately.

In addition, prior to this, JinMan had called Pasin (Kim Min) and told him that he didn't have to return his money, which we're assuming is code for him to come back to Korea as soon as possible or that their plan has finally been set into motion.

Conveniently enough, Pasin returns just in time to save JiAn, and no one knows where he came from or how he got in. This is mysterious enough to indicate that there's a secret way into the house that only JinMan and Pasin know.

Moreover, the tattoo on JinMan's leg is new to JiAn, which only goes further to hint at the fact that it may not be his body in the first place!

If that's not proof enough, remember when JinMan fakes his sickness to test JiAn in the mountains and help her overcome her childhood trauma? Who's to say he didn't just temporarily make his pulse undetectable and faked his death? We don't know about you, but that sure sounds like something JinMan would do.

          2. Bale Tells JinMan He Will Kill Him Last

During JinMan and Bale's (Jo HanSun) showdown in the latest episode of "A Shop For Killers", Bale warns JinMan that if he doesn't kill him then and there, he will come after his family and his loved ones before killing him last. We cannot help but think that this is some sort of foreshadowing for a final battle between the two, which is yet to come.

JinMan returns to his family soon after his fight with Bale and Bale's apparent death. JinMan realized that in order to protect his family, he will have to be near them. However, when Bale returned and murdered JiAn's parents, he became even more cautious and chalked out the perfect plan to get rid of Bale once and for all. This is the plan that we're currently witnessing in "A Shop For Killers", where JinMan is luring Bale and all his enemies to one place to eliminate them at once.

JinMan is testing alliances, misleading his enemies, preparing JiAn for the future while also giving her the opportunity to leave this life and start over, and ultimately strengthening murthehelp. JinMan is fully aware that Bale will not go down easily and is simply waiting for the right time to come out of hiding and end his whole career.

          3. He's Jeong JinMan!

This one is self-explanatory. The man who has always been twenty steps ahead of everyone, runs a state-of-the-art arms business, used to be a mercenary, and has connections all over the world is not going to end his own life because of a deepfake. As much as we are led to believe that he acted out of character because it was a matter of JiAn's life and death, it is impossible to think that he didn't see right through JongMin and figure out who sent him right from the day they met.

Even if we were to believe that JinMan fell victim to JongMin's manipulation, are we really to believe that he specifically left his phone in such a conspicuous place without actually intending for JongMin to find it? JinMan is, once again, several steps ahead of everyone else, and it is only a matter of time before he returns to save the day, side by side with his niece JiAn, Pasin, MinHye (Geum Hannah) and Brother (Lee TaeYoung).

Besides, isn't JinMan's handover guide to murthehelp a little too precise? JinMan couldn't have prepared that much in advance for JiAn's exact situation if he had indeed passed away suddenly after being tricked.

If the drama really wants to tug at our heartstrings, JinMan will probably return after JiAn calls out his name three times, but it may just be even cooler if JiAn survives by herself, without needing his help, just as he wanted.

The final two episodes of "A Shop For Killers" premieres this week on Wednesday, Feb 7. Watch "A Shop For Killers" on Disney+.
