On Tuesday, July 19, I got the chance to attend AleXa’s question and answer session at Asia Times Square in Grand Prairie, Texas.  AleXa’s currently making appearances across the United States following her historic win on NBC’s "American Song Contest", USA’s answer to Eurovision Song Contest, beating out people like Macy Gray, Michael Bolton, and Jewel.

Based on the theme of her winning song 'Wonderland', her appearance was “Alice in Wonderland” inspired, complete with photo booths, a bracelet-making table with beads and keys, a K-Pop random dance party, and even themed drinks.  Before the Q&A started, AleXa came out and judged a dance cover contest between two dancing troupes.  After she chose a winner, she started answering questions from the audience.  I’ve transcribed some of the questions and answers below.

Would you rather be a ninja or a pirate?

Well, umm. I’m going to have a bit of a fan moment here, but y’all know I stan ATEEZ, right? So I would have to say, out of respect for one of my favorite groups, pirate.

Which MV has been your favorite to shoot?

Well, my favorite music video to shoot, I think personally, was 'Revolution'. I’m assuming you all have seen the music video, if not, how are you here? (laughs) But, because in 'Revolution', I got to try so many things like I got to try deep sea diving with an oxygen tube, I had to learn the breathing technique for that in like 10 minutes before we filmed it. But your girl is strong and athletic so yeah. I also got to do combat, both hand-to-hand and on a wire, which was pretty cool. And then I got to run past explosions, who has done that?  So yeah, 'Revolution' was pretty cool, even though I had to do ER because bruises, but it was fun. So when I did 'Revolution', the cannons misfired on me like five times.
        *Audience gasps*
Oh, some of you didn’t know this. You didn’t watch the 'Revolution' music video all the way through. It’s in the credits, baby.

When can fans expect a world tour?

Uhhh… world tour, yeah. I’ll have to talk to a manager, but yeah. Definitely, I would say sooner than later. I want to say the end of the year, if not, the beginning of next.

Can fans get a spoiler on your next comeback?

Well, since there are only two of my staff here today.
        (laughs)
Umm, I will say, you know that good girls love spooky things. I think the holiday is Halloween. So uh yeah, expect something a little spooky, yeah?

What’s one of your favorite things to do in Texas?

Well, I’ve been to Texas so many times, back and forth, because I’ve gone to so many K-Pop concerts here. Um, yeah. Literally, the first concert I went to except for K-CON, which was in LA, was Exo’Lution here in Dallas. So I mean, I haven’t had the opportunity here lately, but I would have to say going to concerts is one of my favorite things to do in Texas.

If you weren’t famous right now, then what career would you pursue?

Oh, I mean, the word 'famous' is a big word. It’s very… That’s at least six letters. No, wait seven. No, six. See, this is why I should have stayed in school.
        (Laughs)
If I wasn’t an idol right now, not going to lie, I have a lot of interest in forensics, like forensic pathology.

What is your favorite Britney Spears song?

Okay, first off, not to get too political but thank god Britney’s free. Oh, there are so many good Britney songs! It’s like picking a favorite child. Why are you making me do this in front of people? Umm, so many good ones. I mean 'Lucky' is a good one. But also 'Oops I Did it Again' because it’s a classic.

Who would you like to collaborate with if you had the chance, both K-Pop and Western artists?

Within the spectrum of K-Pop itself, you know I love my girl HyunA.  So if I had the possibility to collab with her, I would lose my mind. But also, in the world of Western music, there’s a handful. I mean, I personally really like Troye Sivan. I also really like Doja Cat. But at the same time, I really want to learn how to scream properly, so I think Slipknot would be a fun one. I like metal music, much to my parents' chagrin.

What advice do you want to give fans?

You don’t have to blend in. You don’t have to be what society wants you to be. Be uniquely yourself. Not everyone is going to like it, everyone’s always going to have an opinion. That’s why you don’t have to read it or just have it in one ear and out the other. Just be yourself.

What’s your favorite part of the comeback process?

It’s different every time, because sometimes we have a song that we are dead set on and we start with it immediately. But then sometimes, like with my current comeback, we get a lot of different songs and we have a round table and sit and discuss conceptually how would this one work, how does it sound, what would the choreography for this be. I think hearing the songs before choosing one is my favorite part.

What’s a saying that someone told you that impacted who you are today?

Oh, that’s a deep one. This is going to be really cheesy, but it’s not something someone really said to me. But my school motto, the school I went to growing up Jenks High School in Oklahoma. The school's motto is “It’s okay to try and fail and try and fail again, but it’s not okay to try and fail and fail to try again.”

AleXa was so nice, gracious, and fun with her fans.  I’m hoping the world tour she hinted at comes very soon and she has me even more excited than I already was for her next comeback, something spooky and Halloween-y.
