The annual survey report on the Korean Wave overseas in 2020 by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Culture Exchange was released.
The survey was done with 8,500 Hallyu content consumers in 18 countries (including China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Australia, USA, Brazil, Argentina, France, United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and South Africa) from Sept. 24 to Nov. 4 through online surveys.
The respondents had to write down their favorite Korean drama they have watched this year. Here are the top 7 Korean dramas by overseas fans according to this survey.
1. "Crash Landing on You" (9.5%)
2. "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" (4.1%)
3. "The World of the Married" (2.8%)
4. "Itaewon Class" (2.8%)
5. "Kingdom" (2.5%)
6. "The King: Eternal Monarch" (2.1%)
7. "Dae Jang Geum" (2.0%)
Here are the top 6 dramas in 2019: "Hotel del Luna" (8.2%), "Descendants of the Sun" (3.0%), "Dae Jang Geum" (2.3%), "Kingdom" (2.1%), "Goblin" (2.0%) and "Her Private Life" (2.0%) (in the chart below).
Also, the government gave out more details about the results, this table has 15 K-Dramas mentioned by the respondents (only names with more than 1% of answers were included in the table).
Respondents from Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Australia, United States, France, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa mentioned "Crash Landing On You" the most.
In China, it was "My Love From the Star" which was mentioned the most, "Winter Sonata" in Japan, "Kingdom" in Brazil and France, "It's Okay To Not Be Okay" in Argentina, "The Heirs" in Russia, and "The King: Eternal Monarch" in Turkey.
