        Starship Entertainment / FNC Entertainment

K-Pop has evolved into much more than a genre of music. It's become a stand-alone culture, molded by the very fans who support their favorite artists from every corner of the globe. With the rise of the fourth generation, we see groups like LE SSERAFIM, TXT, and NewJeans dominating the charts for weeks at a time. They, among many others, have recognizable names within the K-Pop industry, representing the distinct qualities of what makes the current generation unique.

Although their success is clear for everyone to see, we cannot forget that the genre as a whole has seen a large number of successful artists pass through its doors. K-Pop has a storied history that would take weeks to properly sort through and cover. But here at Kpopmap, we're taking it one month at a time with our series, K-Pop Flashback.

Through this series, we open the gates of nostalgia at the end of every month and take a look at a specific time in K-Pop. We aim to look back no less than 7 years, the average contract length of your typical idol group. Our goals are to both reminisce and introduce newer K-Pop fans to older groups and trends that dominated the market all those years ago.

As the month of July comes to a close, let's travel back to the year 2015. Meet the artists and songs that dominated the charts down below!

        Circle Chart

Looking at both Circle Chart and Melon Chart in July 2015, it's hard to believe that these iconic K-Pop tracks are nearing almost a decade old. Both see multiple songs from the same artists make their way onto the chart. While there are some differences in terms of order, the two charts hold similarities when it comes to artists.

The K-Pop artists that dominated the music charts in July 2015 includes BIGBANG, SISTAR, and AOA. Then in between is the K-Indie band, HYUKOH, adding some diversity to the idol-centric list.

        Top Songs Of July 2015

        SISTAR - 'SHAKE IT'

One of the songs that appear on both charts is SISTAR's 'Shake It'. Although in two different places, due to being lauded as the queens of summer, it seems only natural that SISTAR appeared on the charts during the blazing month of July. You can totally feel the ocean breeze wash over your face while listening to this iconic track.

        BIGBANG - 'IF YOU'

Despite the rising temperatures, 'IF YOU' offered a cooling comfort to fans everywhere, appearing on both Melon and Circle Chart. The slow ballad was a refreshing change from the hype, hip-hop tracks that fans had started to expect from the YG idol group. Its sentimentality and the overflowing emotions were more than enough to convince thousands to put 'IF YOU' on repeat all day long.

        BIGBANG - 'SOBER'

'SOBER' is yet another memorable BIGBANG song that made its way onto Circle Chart. The up-tempo track got your blood pumping, the reaction you'd expect from the legendary idols. It makes the perfect soundtrack to a summer road trip with friends while you drive past the scenic shoreline. No alcohol is needed while getting drunk off the energy of 'SOBER'.

HYUKOH - 'Wi Ing Wi Ing'

Making an appearance on both charts is Hyukoh's 'Wi Ing Wi Ing'. The indie band made a complete splash with the track, stunning K-Pop fans everywhere. When this song reappeared on the airwaves, everyone was jamming along to its rhythmic guitar riffs and groovy bass lines. HYUKOH were able to make a successful breakthrough into mainstream media and many started to show immense love towards the band and this, now, iconic track.

        HYUKOH - 'Comes And Goes'

'Come And Goes' serves as another song by HYUKOH that makes an appearance on both Melon and Circle Charts. The song contains a surplus of funk and soul that even those outside the K-Indie scene could not help but fall for the incredibly trendy track. It got every part of your body grooving from dawn to dusk, becoming a track that's well-loved even until this day.

        AOA - 'Heart Attack'

Rounding out the list is AOA's 'Heart Attack'. Everything from intro to choreography made this song a certified hit. Whenever summer comes along, many older K-Pop fans point to 'Heart Attack' as a must on any summer playlist. It matches perfectly well as you lounge on the beach and soak up the sun's warm rays.
