Have you always dreamed of doing a photo shoot in an unusual place? Yongma Land is for you!

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this abandoned amusement park dating from the 80s. In operation from 1980 to 2011, it is now partially abandoned, as it is possible to visit it to take photos against an entrance ticket (~$9). The current owner is a former photographer, so with a few words exchanged with him, you could well get caught up in the game for an impromptu photo shoot!

However, it is a bit complex to get there, because it is in the northeast mountains of Seoul, about fifteen minutes from the nearest metro station. It is, therefore, preferable to take a taxi for the first time, if you do not want to get lost.

The trip is worth the detour if you like urbex! It was especially popular after its closure for the video shoots of a few K-Pop groups, including TWICE ('Like OOH-AHH'), Crayon Pop ('Bar Bar Bar'), B.A.P ('1004'), Eric Nam ('Spring Love' ft. Wendy), or Beast ('Ribbon') to name only the most well-known.

The carousel, which sometimes lights up at night and starts running, is what particularly catches the eyes. It hosted the filming of dramas at the same time, including "Sisyphus: The Myth", and more recently "The Sound of Magic", available on Netflix. The park was slowly closed down when Lotte World, now Korea's most popular amusement park, opened in 1989. Not far from the park is also an abandoned swimming pool, but it is private so please don't get lost on your way there!

To embellish your photos, it is also possible to buy or rent some props and balloons from the owner, and it is possible to refresh yourself with drink dispensers. Toilets are also available for visitors. In addition, there is a photo studio in the park's castle, if you want a professional shoot. The studio offers four different sceneries: in the castle, in a cabin, under a tent, and in front of the carousel.

Regarding the carousel, you have to pay (~$25) for the owner to turn it on at nightfall, giving it back all its charm. As popular attractions, you can also find an octopus, bumper cars, a Viking, and a small train. Another park called Gaya Land used to be abandoned in the south, in Gimhae, but it has recently reopened after being restored.

Some K-Pop groups went to Yongma Land just to take pictures, such as BTS, EXO, GOT7, PENTAGON, Lovelyz, Red Velvet, or Gfriend. It is therefore an ideal place if you want to immerse yourself in K-Pop, and recreate certain music videos or photoshoots. Finally, if you are a fan of urban exploration of abandoned places, Korea has few places that will give you goosebumps: Yeongdeok Ghost House, Neulbom Garden, Nungnae Station, and the famous Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital. However, the latter was destroyed in 2018 to prevent people from visiting it, the building being dangerous and threatening to collapse.

Wishing you a pleasant time in this abandoned park!
