Fan fiction, when done ethically, is a type of creative writing that involves fictional stories featuring imaginary versions of real people and/or characters. They are usually set in an AU or alternate universe and, as such, are meant to have no import in real life. You can think of fanfiction as K-Dramas that feature actors as themselves, albeit in a fictional setting, such as "To Be Continued" and "Soul Plate" but in this case, they are written by fans.
