K-Pop is a genre that is so diverse. Despite being under the spectrum of pop, it is not rare to see some groups include rock music in their albums or even ballads. That is the greatest advantage of K-Pop, there is music for everyone, whatever style you may lie, it is almost impossible not to find anything satisfying among all the songs released. And even if you stick to one group, many of them do like to try a bit of everything. Of course, to find those treasures, you need to search a little and listen to the B-sides instead of stopping yourself after listening to the title track. But that is another quest as a K-Pop fan.
Yet, among all the groups and songs existing, some of you might think that a lot of styles and variety are missing in K-Pop. That might be because some groups that produce very different music or present very uncommon group compositions are not always so popular compared to regular K-Pop groups. But this does not mean that they're less talented or less worthy of your attention. But because it can be hard to find them in the big ocean that is K-Pop, we decided to list some of them in this article. Now, let yourself discover those new atypical groups!
1. Forestella

Forestella isn't completely unknown, in fact, many people do know about them. But because their music style is so unique, becoming a fan is on another level for them. This quartet is getting closer to the opera genre with its wonderful and powerful voices. The group was created with the four winners of the singing competition "Phantom Singer 2". All members come from various backgrounds, and their diversity is what makes Forestella who they are now. Their singularity, apart from their one-of-a-kind voices, is the fact that they do a lot of crossovers, meaning they take original songs and sing them in their own style. But because the modifications they do to the songs are so magnificent, it is hard to call it a cover at that point. If you enjoy stable voices and heaven-like harmonies, then this group is definitely for you!
2. Espero

This group which only debuted last month is to look forward to. Just like Forestella, Espero is getting closer to opera-like songs, and they made a strong debut with this concept still rarely seen so far in the industry. If you feel like it is too late to stan Foresella, you must give a try to Espero. The members' voices will transport you to a whole new dimension. The harmonies are perfect and the music is on another level. If you're looking to stan a new group that no other group can compare with from the new gen, then Espero is what you were looking for. Because they just debuted, they do not have many songs for you to listen to so far, but do not let that discourage you, on the contrary, support them so they can comeback soon!
3. Hoppipolla

If you're a K-Pop fan, you might know that not all K-Pop groups are performers, some of them are bands. If they're a band, it means that they play some kind of instrument. Now, the classics are guitar, piano, drum, and bass. You may expect some variants from time to time but most of the time, this is the pattern. This is why Hoppipolla can be considered uncommon. Unlike other bands, they have a member who plays the Cell. Yes, this big instrument that is often used for classical music, well they make K-Ppop music with it! Hoppipolla gained popularity after participating in the survival show for bands called "Superband". The Rose is another group that participated in the show. And really, what makes this group stand out is this iconic instrument that no one expected to see on a K-Pop stage one day. Of course, that Is not all that Hoppipolla has to offer. The wonderful vocals and harmonies of the main singers are also something that can make you fall in love with the group. But we can guarantee that if you take a look at them, you'll be blown up by the Cell and everything they manage to create thanks to it.
4. LUCY

LUCY is another band with a unique instrument. it is not as big as a Cell, but it is in the same category as one of the members plays the violin. This little instrument is bringing so much to the group's music. LUCY produced a lot of music with a happy melody and having a violin part of the instrumental helped to build up that bright and light mood of their songs. Plus, the main vocalist himself has a pretty high-pitched voice which makes sit easy to harmonize with the sound of the violin. 5. SUPERKIND

Leaving the instruments behind, let's move on to our next uncommon group. If you're a fan of new technologies, then its is no doubt that you'll fall in love with SUPERKIND. This group which debuted in 2022 has one of their member fully digital. Indeed, one of SUPERKIND's members is a computer-generated person. If it seems weird to you, wait until you see his design and perfectly made animation. Because this member isn't only existing as a decoration, he is fully part of the group and has his own voice too. Today's technology made it possible for him to be part of this group, participating in the dances too, and we promise you don't want to miss it. This is something that no one expected or saw coming, yet it happened. SUPERKIND did not have many public appearances yet so it is still unclear how this member will appear during stages such as weekly music shows or entertainment shows, but we're for sure looking forward to it.
6. AKMU

AKMU, originally Akdong Musical, is a duo under YG Entertainment that not everyone has heard about, yet should. If a duo is already a rare composition in K-Pop, AKMU went further as the two members are sister and brother. It is not rare to have people from the same family both being in the industry, there are in fact many of them now. But none of them are in the same group, except for AKMU. And if sisters and brothers tend to not get along, wait until you hear these two's voices perfectly harmonizing with each other. It is almost like they were meant to be this iconic duo. Even if they did some solo activities too, the duo AKMU produced many wonderful pop and ballad songs that you should definitely check out. Once again, if you like clear, stable voices and harmonies, then you will for sure like AKMU.
