Check out Kpopmap's exclusive coverage of DREAMCATCHER's recent concert in London.
directorlydia, ContributorLondon, Troxy, 21 February 2024
K-Pop groups are lately preferring to gather up at the Troxy in London, filling up the floor and its balcony hours before the concert starts. DREAMCATCHER are no exception to this, with the 7-piece group filling up the venue in celebration of its seventh anniversary with a very long-awaited concert in the UK.
The group is no rookie – they have performed in London before and they know how to keep the crowd on edge. With the gig starting later than expected, the echoes of the venue announced the entrance of the girls on stage to play the song 'OOTD' and have everyone sing along. Following a very successful opening to the concert, the group performed quickly fan-favourites such as 'Black Or White', 'YOU AND I', 'Rising', and 'Wake up'.
The setlist was so upbeat that the whole crowd was bouncing along to the fiery electric guitars and drumbeats. It was very interesting to see how diverse the crowd was – people of all ages were thoroughly enjoying the concert – and were singing or dancing along. The group is definitely not your typical K-Pop act; the rock and metal sounds accompanied by impressive live vocals and elaborate choreographies make DREAMCATCHER stand out not only among their peer bands but also among other acts. I found them to be very unique in their genre, and their stage presence was powerful and captivating, barely taking breaks between performances and live vocal singing. The members were on stage for nearly the entire show and when they were not singing, they interacted with their fans, thanking them for waiting to see them (even in the rain). The interactions were so genuine it really made each girl’s personality shine through the concert and I found myself not only enjoying it but also very focused on what they said and did. As an avid fan of rock music, this was definitely the type of concert that would strike a cord with me.
The dynamic performance continued on with songs such as the metal version of 'The curse of the Spider', 'Deja Vu', the rock version of 'Lullaby' and 'Mayday' and not a single moment passed that I did not see everyone around me having the time of their lives. The concert felt more rock/metal rather than K-Pop, allowing for a whole new experience to be shared between the members and the fans. DREAMCATCHER also chose to skip a few of their choreographies and let their raw vocals shine through, running around the stage to hype up the audience below and above them.
The concert ended with a slower song 'REASON', even though the energy did not slow down at all. As tribute to their fans, the group performed the song in a venue that looked more like a rave rather than the final song of a gig. There was energy and charisma that was evident in every single detail through the performance and it was testament to show how much DREAMCATCHER stand out above everyone else. It was one of the most enjoyable concerts I have attended and a definite recommendation for the remaining of the tour and the future tours too.
Idols are bound to change during their career as an idol. Here's some that we saw major changes from!
Kianna, Staff WriterK-Pop idols change throughout the years and many fans are always shocked by the changes. From their debut until now, many idols have gone through drastic transformations. Whether physically or mentally, they have turned into the idols that we know from debut to the ones we love today!
Some idols start youthful and young then soon blossom into mature, sophisticated idols. Some of them even started as shy and then soon burst into a confident artist as the years passed. Since so many idols have changed since their debut, we picked out some that notably stood out to us from their debut journey until current activities. Here are some idols we think had a major change from their debut until now!
Stray Kid's ChangBin has had a major transformation from the group's debut until now. Not only has he gained a manly, strong physique, but the rapper is very confident in his skills nowadays and he shines in every comeback. ChangBin went from our cute rapper to the mega rapper that we know today!
TWICE's JiHyo evolved into an award-winning, confident, soloist and leader. JiHyo had always had her cute looks when TWICE debuted. As the group progressed, she turned into more mature looks and shocked everyone with her looks as a debut soloist. While JiHyo is still the adorable leader that we know and love, she has shined so much and grown confident from her debut until now.
Probably one of the most dramatic changes, WonHo's looks from debut until now are one for the books! Starting from a boy group and now a soloist, WonHo traded his youthful charm and looks for muscles and mysterious aesthetics. WonHo has talked a lot about how much he has changed in terms of looks and his mentality. He is a strong and confident idol that we all love!
The youngest of the group and a global superstar, BTS's JungKook looks different from his debut compared to now. It was inevitable for the idol to change. He has been in the spotlight at a young age and his interests have changed over the years. Covered with tattoos, piercings, and a radiating personality, JungKook has changed from the quiet, baby of BTS to a sensational superstar worldwide.
NCT's JaeMin is not the small, boyish idol that we once knew from 'Chewing Gum'! He has changed into a powerful, positive young man. His transformation stands out so much because his group has done many different concepts, allowing him to grow as a person and try different aesthetics that fit his looks.
VIVIZ's UmJi bright presence is undeniable and she has grown tremendously from her debut in her previous girl group to her current position in VIVIZ. Not only has UmJi's appearance matured, but her personality as well. Her confidence on stage catches your eye and she is still the caring girl that we have known since her debut.
P1Harmony's InTak feels like a fully-fledged adult nowadays compared to his debut. As an idol who was new to the K-Pop world just 4 years ago, InTak has changed appearance in just those 4 years. His appearance change is obvious in the group's latest song 'Killin It' and we love how dynamic his looks are.
ATEEZ's San hit the gyms and worked on his stage presence persistently throughout the years. Compared to their debut, San's stage performances have seen a major change and he is powerful when he hits the stage. Fans can't help but love the transformation San has gone through in the last 6 years as he is a happy, influential idol now!
DREAMCATCHER's HanDong appearance change is not a huge one but her personality change was a major one! Compared to her debut until now, HanDong has come out of her shell and has a breathtaking appearance and presence. She is amazing at everything she does and her appearance shines in every comeback.
