        "Fantasy Boys" Official

The finals for MBC's competition program, "Fantasy Boys", is just on the horizon. The contestants have been endlessly running towards their dream of joining the debut group and becoming an idol for what months now.

With the finish line in sight, everyone is rightfully excited, yet nervous for the end result. But alas, before the finals even begin, the trainees must finish the semi-finals and go through one last bout of eliminations.

Episode 9 showcased the boys getting ready for the eventual climax of the show, showcasing swoon-worthy performances for the semi-final round. The idol hopefuls once again came face to face with yet another set of challenges. Tensions might be high, but the trainees' desire to succeed was greater than ever before.

Here’s a recap of what happened last week on MBC’s “Fantasy Boys”.

        Warning: spoilers ahead.

        1. Semi-final Mission Reveal

Now that Semester 4 has ended, the semi-finals lay ahead for the contestants. In order to hear about the mission, the idol hopefuls gather in their dormitory hall. “Fantasy Boys” quickly reveals that Ha SeokHee received the additional pass from WINNER’s Yoon, allowing him to continue on to the semi-finals.

All four mentors, along with MC TVXQ’s Max ChangMin arrive, surprising everyone in the room. The trainees soon learn that the semi-finals will include four new songs produced by the mentors themselves.

The songs revealed were ‘SPACEMAN’ by (G)I-DLE’s SoYeon, ‘RUN’ by WINNER’s Yoon, ‘SNACKS’ by 2PM’s WooYoung, and ‘Hold Tight’ by JinYoung. All four songs brought out strong reactions from the trainees, showcasing a different appeal from the last.

As the songs concluded, MC ChangMin revealed that the semi-finals would be an individual mission with the winner of each group receiving benefits. Additionally, the mentors would then choose one other member from the group that perfectly portrayed the song’s concept. On competition day, it was revealed that there would be another benefit: team benefit.

        2. Producer's Pick

Unlike previous rounds, the teams for the semi-final mission would be decided by the producers themselves. Prior to deciding on which contestants they should add to their teams, the four producers met up beforehand and conducted a few rounds of rock paper scissors. The producers ended up picking in the order of SoYeon, Yoon, WooYoung, and lastly JinYoung.

Some of the most coveted members included Hong SungMin and Hikaru. As expected, these two were immediately chosen by SoYeon and Yoon as they were first in the picking order. As the boys waited for their name to be called, the air was filled with tense anticipation and a whole bunch of excitement for what lies ahead.

        3. 'SPACEMAN' Team: A Group Of Otherworldly Charms

The first group to kick off the semi-final round was none other than team 'SPACEMAN'. They consisted of Hong SungMin, Lee HanBin, Kim GyuRae, Soul, Ha SeokHee, Hayato, and Santa.

The entire team worked tirelessly to fully interpret 'SPACEMAN' to the best of their ability. However, when it came time for the mid-mission evaluation, Lee HanBin stood out due to his obvious mistakes. Throughout the entire process, SoYeon paid special attention to the trainees' abilities and guided them to bring out their full potential. Although HanBin faced countless struggles, with the help of SoYeon and the rest of his team, he was able to overcome them and showcase his true capabilities.

On competition day, team 'SPACEMAN' absolutely crushed it on stage. The trendy pop song captivated everyone in the studio, causing even the other producers to cheer in support. When it came to benefits, much to his surprise, Lee HanBin ended up taking first place for both live voting and producer's vote.

        4. 'RUN' Team: Heading Towards The Finish Line

Team 'RUN' is made up of Oh HyeonTae, Hikaru, Keum JinHo, Kang IRang, Kang HyunWoo, Kim WooSeok, and Kim DaeHui. Producer Yoon was confident in his team formation, providing a sense of relief and pride to his hand-picked group of contestants.

At the start, team 'RUN' was able to divide the parts freely, up until the first verse. Then, when they met with producer Yoon, the battle for parts began between the passionate contestants. WooSeok was eagerly trying out for multiple parts, in order to ensure that he had lines in case the pre-chorus was taken from him. However, in the end, he was able to protect his part until the end. The trainees worked tirelessly to ensure they presented a performance that both they and producer Yoon would be proud of.

When it came to competition day, 'RUN' team did not disappoint and set the stage on fire. Their passion surprised everyone and put producer Yoon's worries to rest. In terms of benefits, Kim WooSeok won in live voting and Hikaru received producer's pick.

        5. 'Hold Tight' Team: Holding Onto A Dream

Team 'Hold Tight' is comprised of Kang MinSeo, Hikari, Yuma, Moon HyunBin, Hwang JaeMin, Kang DaeHyeon, and Kim BeomJun. The contestants steadied their resolve to put on an amazing performance worthy of the semi-finals.

The 'Hold Tight' members first had a sit down meeting with producer JinYoung to fully understand the complex emotions of the song. When it came to evaluations a few days later, the "Fantasy Boys" mentor greatly complimented the group and their incredible skills. However, Kang MinSeo wasn't able to show his full potential and received more feedback than others.

Afterwards, they all went out to eat together, becoming filled with both food and producer JinYoung's encouraging advice. Even on rehearsal day, JinYoung did his absolute best to guide the contestants so that they're able to present a performance that will amaze fans everywhere.

Team 'Hold Tight' was absolutely stunning and presented a stage that would be engrained in our memories. They were able to receive both praise and shouts of amazement from the producers in front of them. For benefits, Hikari came in first for on site voting and Kang DaeHyeon received producer's pick.
