K-Drama enthusiasts have certainly heard of one of the hottest series currently on air, “Queen Of Tears”. It features the world-renowned Kim SooHyun and Kim JiWon as the main couple of the series.

The drama follows the story between Baek HyunWoo (Kim SooHyun), the pride of Yongduri and once regular employee, and Hong HaeIn (Kim JiWon), chaebol heiress and "queen" of Queens Group's department stores. With their marriage on the verge of ending, they go through a series of events to rediscover what it was like to love one another in the first place.

If the tvN drama has done anything, it’s made weekends such a treat to look forward to, causing viewers to appreciate both the storyline and the talented cast, such as Kim JiWon.

She’s done such a magnificent job piloting her character of Hong HaeIn. But this level of skill and success did not flourish overnight, rather it was an arduous process of hard work and perseverance that deserve its due recognition.

        A Prominent Start

Prior to starting her career as an actress, Kim JiWon received training in singing, dancing, and acting. During this period of self-discovery, she was even a background chorus member and pianist for accomplished vocalist, YounHa. And while she could have made her debut as a singer herself, she ultimately decided to pursue acting in the end.

With this choice, Kim JiWon was able to step foot into the entertainment industry for the first time through LG Cyon’s Lollipop 2 CF, featuring BIGBANG. When her involvement was announced, she received a hot response from netizens nationwide.

Afterwards, she was able to land a role in the greatly loved, "High Kick! The Revenge of the Short Legged". With such great promise and an amazing start to her career, it seemed that Kim JiWon was set to only embark on an upward trajectory.

From Rising Actress To Household Name

Right from the start, Kim JiWon set herself apart. Much of her roles deviated away from the helpless, damsel in distress. Instead, her characters possessed an overflowing charisma and inherent strength that impressed viewers worldwide. From Rachel Yoo in "The Heirs" to Yoon MyungJoo in "Descendants of the Sun", there was a steady confidence from these characters who only showed their weakness when the situation called for it.

There's also her standout performance as the quirky and loveable Choi AeRa from "Fight My Way". These roles were pivotal in cementing the image of Kim JiWon in the minds of the public and what led her to become such an iconic figure in the K-Drama industry. With these stellar roles building the foundation to her career, Kim JiWon became an actress loved by many.

Seeing her name pop up in casting lists now makes audiences excited to tune in with the promise of yet another award-winning performance from the actress.

Career Stability And Realized Star Qualities

If the start of her career was a full-on sprint towards the finish line, Kim JiWon has slowed down significantly. At one point, she graced television screens yearly, passionate and ready to prove herself before the spotlight dims. But after "Lovestruck in the City" in 2020, Kim JiWon decided to take things a little slower.

While this is most likely due to the worldwide pandemic, even when restrictions were starting to let up, the actress chose to select her next projects with care, coming out in the healing, slow burn, "My Liberation Notes". While she shifted gears in 2020, with her success and acting prowess, she certainly had the right to take some time and deeply think about the next steps in her career. And despite not being in a drama every year, her skills have only gotten better, placing her among the greats of her generation.

Once again, Kim JiWon's portrayal of Hong HaeIn is another acting masterclass from the star actress. She plays a role of respected strength that comes from years of survival in a cutthroat chaebol environment. However, she also presents a duality of soft tenderness that comes from a place of utmost vulnerability.

While we haven't even reached the halfway point, K-Drama enthusiasts are excited for what's to come and witness Kim JiWon as one part leading the charge.
