The highly anticipated romance K-Drama "Castaway Diva" has officially premiered, and fans all over the world are streaming it on Netflix. In its home country, the drama achieved promising ratings with its first episode, which increased considerably with the second. The scene was set outstandingly by the impressive performances of young actors Lee Re and Moon WooJin, who play the young versions of Seo MokHa and Jung KiHo, respectively, in episode 1. With the appearance of actors Park EunBin as adult Seo MokHa, Chae JongHyeop as Kang BoGeol, and Cha HakYeon as Kang WooHak, the impact of "Castaway Diva" was amplified manifold.

"Castaway Diva" tells the story of two teenage kids - aspiring singer Seo MokHa and her friend Jung KiHo, who plan to escape their abusive households and start a new life in Seoul. However, fate gets in the way, leaving KiHo unable to join MokHa on her journey and MokHa being stranded on a deserted island after falling off the ship. Fifteen years later, MokHa is rescued when reporter Kang WooHak's drone happens upon her.

Kang WooHak has quickly become a fan favorite character with his bright and lively image. His sense of humor, vibrant energy, and sassy personality have stolen fans' hearts away in only one episode, and we have Cha HakYeon to thank.

Cha HakYeon has been steadily growing his filmography with some extraordinary roles. Among his recent works, in 2022, he led the TV movie "Drama Special: Stain", which won him the "Best Actor in Drama Special/TV Cinema" award at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards, and in 2023, he played the main role of Yoo JiSun in "Joseon Attorney: A Morality". In both works, his acting was highly praised by critics, and fans have been looking forward to his performance in "Castaway Diva".

Living up to his reputation, Cha HakYeon delivers yet another strong performance in "Castaway Diva" as Kang WooHak - a passionate and unrelenting "born" reporter with a heart full of love and rebellion for his brother Kang BoGeol. With Kang WooHak, you might think what you see is what you get, but there's a sense of there being more to him than meets the eye, which is conveyed with subtlety by Cha HakYeon. Embodying his character with a natural finesse and conviction, Cha HakYeon is in his element, and we love to see it.

        Spoiler Alert!

Fans of "Castaway Diva" are theorizing that Kang WooHak, who claims to have lost his memories prior to high school, might actually be Jung KiHo. WooHak is naturally inclined to care for MokHa, has similar mannerisms as KiHo, and proactively decides to treat MokHa like he were KiHo. At the same time, Kang BoGeol notably gifts MokHa a fresh pair of shoes after rescuing her, just like KiHo said he would when they reach land. In addition, before the time skip, we see someone (most likely KiHo) waiting at the station in hopes of meeting MokHa one day, which wouldn't be possible if KiHo had lost his memories. Moreover, BoGeol's profession - that of a producer - closely matches KiHo's knack for filmmaking in school.

Another aspect that is worth pointing out is BoGeol's firm insistence on denying that WooHak is KiHo. This may be because he is, in fact, KiHo, but it is also possible that he is simply trying to protect his brother from his painful past. If WooHak is KiHo and KiHo had truly lost his memories from his head injury, that also explains WooHak's animated personality (completely unlike KiHo), devoid of the hurt and darkness left behind by his trauma.

As for WooHak and BoGeol's family, considering one of them is KiHo, it would be quite believable if KiHo found his biological mother's new family in Seoul and was taken in by them, which helped him change his name. Either way, the drama makes it amply clear that this guessing game is going to be a strong theme going forward.

With writer Park HyeRyun's penchant for creating the most heart-fluttering yet painful love triangles (her track record includes "Start-Up" and "While You Were Sleeping"), viewers are predicting that Seo MokHa's first love may not be who we expect and more importantly, he may not be her last. As a result, online forums and social media platforms are already abuzz with discussions about the first and second lead. However, with recent changes in K-Drama trends, we cannot simply predict the end-game couple based on who plays the first or second lead. So, proving the real identity of Jung KiHo doesn't really tell us much anyway.

In conclusion, we may be only two episodes into the series, but viewers are already picking teams. However, despite being divided in this regard, global fans are unanimously swooning over the phenomenal Park EunBin, who is captivating the audience with her incomparable acting skills and a voice as melodious as a nightingale's. We cannot wait to see what happens next!
