Of the songs that idols cover, Chinese and Taiwanese songs are some of the most popular. These are just 10 covers of Chinese and Taiwanese songs by male K-Pop idols.
Sandy, Staff WriterAside from performing their own songs, K-Pop idols are known to cover the songs of other artists, both domestically and internationally. Covering the music of other artists is the perfect way for idols to engage in music genres and styles outside of their own. It also pleases fans by injecting their voice into songs they already know and love while drawing in new fans who discover them through their covers.
Of the songs that idols cover, Chinese and Taiwanese songs are some of the most popular. These are just 10 covers of Chinese and Taiwanese songs by male K-Pop idols.
BaekHo covered Cyndi Wang’s ‘Dang Ni (When You)’ which is a sweet song about being afraid to confess to someone you like. It allowed him to showcase his manly yet soothing vocals, wooing each of his fans and turning those who were just passing by into his fans.
For “Music Bank” in Hong Kong, SEVENTEEN sang ‘Those Bygone Years’ by Hu Xia. This is one of their most notable live performances and for good reason. It showed off the magnetic vocals of all the performing members. Fans have also emphasised their immaculate pronunciation of the lyrics. The audience were drawn into their performance and were singing along with them.
SEVENTEEN’s Jun has covered multiple Chinese songs. Amongst these covers, his performance of ‘Down in Sandbar’ by Taiwanese singer LaLa Hsu is one of the best because it perfectly highlights his sweet vocals, matching the melancholic lyrics about the emptiness of no longer having your lover by your side.
Back in DAY6’s early days during their first overseas showcase in Taiwan, they covered Taiwanese indie band Sodagreen’s ‘Little Love Song’. It is a simple and tender song about the innocent sincerity of love in one’s youth. As a band themselves, their cover embodied the same authenticity of live music and was the start of plenty more wonderful covers of international songs by DAY6.
N.Flying were the perfect band to cover Chinese pop rock band Escape Plan’s popular song, ‘The Brightest Star in the Night Sky’. The strums of the melodic guitar accompanied the atmospheric build up from SeungHyub’s deep resounding voice to his killer rap in the verse and stable vocals in the chorus.
‘Love Confession’ is one of the most well-known songs by Jay Chou, known as the ‘King of Mandopop’. ASTRO covered the song in 2017 for their Singapore showcase titled “ASTRO THE 1st SHOWCASE IN SINGAPORE”. Performing the song to a Singaporean audience was significant for their fans and they were thoroughly impressed at the quality of the performance.
‘Friends’ by Taiwanese singer Wakin Chau is one of the most iconic songs from the 1990s. It is one that almost everyone in the Greater China region knows of and always brings audiences in to get everyone singing along. iKON brought their own K-Pop twist to the song by incorporating rap and dance to create a unique cover.
In 2017, Yanan and HongSeok covered Hebe Tian’s ‘A Little Happiness’ which was one of the most popular songs in the Asian music scene at the time as the OST to Taiwanese rom com film, “Our Times”. Yanan is PENTAGON’s only Chinese member and HongSeok is proficient in Mandarin as he used to study abroad in China and Singapore.
Two of NCT’s Mandarin speaking members, RenJun and XiaoJun, teamed up to perform one of Taiwanese singer Eric Chou’s top hits, ‘Unbreakable Love’. The vocals of the duo complemented each other; while RenJun’s voice is soft and delicate, XiaoJun’s angelic voice is slightly lower.
‘Miss You 3000’ was one of the top soundtracks of 2020, famous for being the OST of Taiwanese TV drama “Someday or One Day”. Many people across the world loved the romantic song and it was none other than the princely MinHyun who covered it.

“2IDIOTS” is the YouTube channel of N.Flying’s drummer, JaeHyun, and guitarist, Cha Hun. These are just seven of their funniest videos.
Sandy, Staff Writer"2IDIOTS" is the YouTube channel of N.Flying’s drummer, JaeHyun, and guitarist, Cha Hun. The channel was launched with their first video on Sep. 22, 2018. Since then, they have uploaded many different videos where they tackle different challenges and play games. A lot of their videos also feature guests including the other N.Flying members, their manager and other idols.
What makes the channel so entertaining is that while JaeHyun and Cha Hun have opposite personalities, their energy is always bouncing off each other and their videos never have a dull moment.
These are just seven of their funniest videos.
Note: This is not a ranking.
There is the saying that ‘ignorance is bliss’ but in this case, ignorance can land you in trouble. In this video, the pair had to promote a mystery item and the winner was the one who convincingly promoted the item the best. They both chose questionable items for each other. JaeHyun had to promote a packet of cat treats while Cha Hun had to promote men’s butt-padded underwear.
JaeHyun and Cha Hun took the notion of music evoking emotions to the next level with this challenge. Singing in emotions such as anxiety, excitement and anger, they covered a range of songs and tried to immerse themselves in their given prompt. It is worth watching them singing in a rage or while hiding against a wall.
Second-hand embarrassment has never been as strong as this particular day when JaeHyun and Cha Hun spoke in either rap or song. They went to the market to buy some fruit and some drinks and dessert at a cafe, all while talking only in rap or song. At one point, Cha Hun abandoned JaeHyun because it was too much to handle.
There are some games that seem simple but instantly you find yourself attempting it over and over again, not making it past the easier levels. This is exactly what happened in this video with the added difficulty of only being allowed to use foreign words. Watch until the very end of the video for an unfortunate twist ending.
For this video, leader SeungHyub joined the challenge. The three of them attempted viral dances like The Backpack Kid Dance and copied certain Fortnite dances. As band members, they may not have the skills of dance idols but they have fun with it.
Korean fried chicken never fails when you want something delicious but what if you paired it with foods that might sound a bit weird? Most of the foods that JaeHyun and Cha Hun paired with fried chicken didn’t taste so good as expected but there was one pairing that did taste really good.
During winter, the weather can get very cold in Korea. Perfect time for warm food and drinks, right? Not on "2IDIOTS" where cold weather calls for cold food. On the menu for the Ice Food Challenge was cold coffee, naengmyun and ice cream. The added twist was that they had to be quiet and not surpass a certain decibel. Everytime they made a noise that was too loud, they had to take off one item of clothing, slowly exposing them to the -5°C weather.
