YuNA from ITZY recently covered Lee HyoRi’s ‘U-Go-Girl’ at the "2022 KBS Song Festival", and her performance was the talk of the town by the K-Pop community. Whether it was Twitter, Reddit, or NatePann, people just couldn’t stop talking about how YuNA stole the night’s show. It’s totally understandable because every detail of her performance and the remake of the song was just perfect. Did you see how well she pulled off her low-rise ‘True Religion’ jeans? Low-rise jeans are coming back in style, but they are not something anyone can deliver easily, especially if the cut is more tight fitting like the one she was wearing. Plus, if those aren’t the symbol of the 2000s fashion, what is?

But if you aren’t familiar with K-Pop in the early 2000s and or thought this was YuNA’s original, here’s something for you.

‘U-Go-Girl’ is Lee HyoRi’s song that came out in July 2008. She is a first-generation K-Pop artist who debuted in 1998 as Fin. K.L, who later transitioned into a successful solo artist. To this date, ‘U-Go-Girl’ is considered one of her most iconic songs. This song was so sensational that summer, and it was something that played in every storefront, on Myeongdong streets, and on radio stations. Lee HyoRi also won several awards thanks to this album and particularly this song, such as the “Mnet Asian Music Award” for “Best Dance Performance” and “Best Female Artist.” She also won the “Mnet 20s Choice Awards” for “Hot Style Icon” and “Hot Performance Musician.” She was THE main character that year, slaying every appearance; she also showed up to the said reward ceremonies in a fitted, checkered pencil skirt and a white button-up and looked stunning. She broke the glass box of peoples’ expectations on ceremony-fits-equals-dress and defined what being a performer and artist means. She’s Girlboss, a legend, and a true queen.

Lee HyoRi is the person that every trainee looked up to as a role model who paved the way for female performers. So it is no surprise that generations of female groups and individuals have covered this iconic song from 2008. It’s interesting to watch because every performance is an adaptation of the original, with a spoonful of their own flavor. Nuff said, we present to you the revolution of ‘U-Go-Girl’ performed by groups and individuals over the years, based on their generation.

1st generation and the OG, Lee HyoRi’s ‘U-Go-Girl’

2nd generation- Girls' Generation ‘U-Go-Girl’ on "Music Core" - 200th Special

So this was early on in their career because you can still peep Jessica on stage!

        3rd generation- GIRL’S DAY's MinAh ‘U-Go-Girl’ on "Inkigayo"

This was her "Inkigayo MC" debut stage.

3rd Generation- OH MY GIRL’s YooA ‘U-Go-Girl’ "Golden Tambourine- MNET TV Show"

How is YooA singing live to this while dancing full force? Her voice goes so well with the nature of the song, and can we talk about the voice resemblance between HyoRi and YooA?

3rd generation- TWICE ‘U-Go-Girl’ "MBC Gayo Daejejun"

A year later from this performance, Twice performed another stage of 'U-Go-Girl' "M Countdown Special Stage".

        4th generation- EVERGLOW ‘U-Go-Girl’ "CON:nected.live"

The colorful socks and chunky strappy heels also give Girls' Generation's 'Gee' vibes!

        4th generation- (G)I-DLE ‘U-Go-Girl’ "Music Core" -  600th Special

Girls' Generation’s 'U-Go-Girl' was for the 200th special, and this is for the 600th special. The difference between these numbers also shows the gap between the 2nd and 4th generations of K-Pop idols.

And, of course, the most recent, 4th generation ITZY YuNA’s ‘U-Go-Girl’ at "KBS Song Festival":

Do you have a favorite stage?
