When LIGHTSUM first debuted, they amassed thousands of dedicated fans that have supported them at every stage of their career. They've presented a variety of concepts, showcasing their well of talent and versatility. While it had been some time since their last release, SUMIT (LIGHTSUM's fandom name) have every reason to be overjoyed as the girl group finally made their long awaited comeback.
LIGHTSUM just dropped their 2nd mini album, "Honey or Spice", with a title song of the same name. The album consists of 6 new tracks that continue to show their depth and evolution as a girl group. Naturally, our eyes, or in this case ears, go straight to the title track. It has deservedly entered our playlist, along with many others.
Here's a few things we love about LIGHTSUM's newest title track, 'Honey or Spice'!
1. An Intro That Builds Up The Hype
Starting off as a whisper, the phrase "Follow me, follow me" starts to echo through your eardrums. With the growing bass and electric synths, the intro creates the perfect build up, preparing listeners to fully immerse themselves into the track. This goes on for a full 20 seconds until it fleshes out into an impressive first verse. Right from the start 'Honey or Spice' captures your attention, making you want to stay until the very end.

The chorus is lively, fun, and the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. While it's reminiscent of the formula we've come to expect out of girl groups, there's enough of LIGHTSUM's color to make you think otherwise. They create a memorable hook and various lyrics that naturally stick. So don't be surprised if you find yourself humming 'Honey or Spice' at random points of the day.
3. Tapping Into Their Mesmerizing Charisma
LIGHTSUM had charisma in their previous releases, highlighted during their promotions for 'ALIVE'. However, it seems the girls have matured much more between then and now, allowing them to tap into a hidden potential that was just waiting to be released. 'Honey or Spice' presents an upgraded version of LIGHTSUM, as they make it clear that they're different from the rookie group we met in 2021.
