THE BOYZ Are Back With Their UNIVERSE Single Release 'Drink It'

THE BOYZ are back with a UNIVERSE single release called 'Drink It.' Unlike a regular comeback, THE BOYZ have released a single on the latest popular fandom platform!

UNIVERSE is a trending K-Pop fandom platform where fans can follow their favorite artists and get exclusive content first. You'll notice that, for example, 'Drink It' was released on Jul. 11, at 6 pm (KST), but only the music video preview is available on the official channels on YouTube. The full version is available on the UNIVERSE app, which you can download here.

Members SangYeon, Jacob, YoungHoon, HyunJae, JuYeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju HakNyeon, SunWoo, and Eric show off their hardcore charms in the new single.

THE BOYZ actually will be the second group to make a comeback after their successful run on the survival show, “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR,” meaning that TheB (THE BOYZ’s fandom) are excited to see how their time doing creative performances on the show will reflect in their comeback.

They are also gaining a lot of popularity due to the show, which is shown by how a non-comeback song like ‘Drink It,’ is doing so well in the charts.

        Concept

The concept for this single is all about the supernatural as the members take on vampire personas.

In the first of three concept trailers, YoungHoon sits down JuYeon for an “INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE.” JuYeon explains to him how the nighttime and darkness make them come alive. His explanation passes by in hazy flashes which are a bit nostalgic but also seem like a foreshadowing. It seems that at this point, YoungHoon isn't a vampire yet.

The next teaser drop is the 'Society Version,' which walks us through similar visuals but this time they are more clear. The ending has changed however, one member finds themselves in a confrontation with the other ones. As the song quickens, the members rush forward and we end up with a bloody-necked YoungHoon.

The last teaser is called the 'Blood Version,' and focuses more on the actual lyrics as some members exchange hesitant looks at the sight of blood, whilst others pressure them to take a drink of it.

This concept is about the balance between humans and vampires in society. Some TheB think that this single might actually be a teaser for their upcoming album release.

        Fashion & Appearance

The fashion in this comeback is reminiscent of every classical imagining of a world where vampires exist but in a stylish way. It's about velvet and blacks and reds, emphasized by frilly white blouses and decorated with ruby gems.

Each member rocks the general style in their own way. In fact, you can see some of the styling elements mentioned in this article about what it's like to be THE BOYZ's stylist.

        Dance

THE BOYZ do a lot of monster-inspired movements with crouching and caricatured arm movements, adding to the supernatural feeling of the concept.

One of the key points is the jacket dance, where the members cover their chins much like a vampire, such as Dracula, would cover their chin with their cape.

        Song

'Drink It,' is an EDM pop song with low bass and heavy drums. SunWoo and Eric participated in the creation of the rap portion, by writing lyrics. This has TheB super excited for a personal touch to the song.

        Episodes & Fun Talks

The single is a by-product of the original THE BOYZ variety show that is available on UNIVERSE called "THE BLOOD: DEATH MATCH." 'Drink It,' is actually meant to be a soundtrack to the show and carries the same concept.

In "THE BLOOD: DEATH MATCH," each member is supposed to be a vampire, so they do a lot of activities related to supernatural concepts. They also dress accordingly. The show has been lovely for TheB to watch because they can watch the boys be their hilarious selves.

In one episode, Eric flustered not only the other members but also the production staff when he took a challenge too far. The challenge was to keep a straight face whilst reading and listening to some silly fan comments, and he outdid himself with the most dramatic and silly reading. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get JuYeon to laugh.

Whereas, a play on words between the Korean word for 'beautiful (아름다워 - a-reum-da-weo),' and the English word 'war,' brought Eric to his knees in laughter. It was in response to a fan saying that a war has broken out. He burst out laughing at the combination 'a-reum-da-war,' and lost the challenge. It also quickly turned into JuYeon's aegyo time when he made the same play on words with the Korean word for cute (귀여워 - gwi-yeo-weo) which became 'gwi-yeo-war.' You could see Eric melting for JuYeon's cuteness on the spot.

The show features lots of adorable and hilarious moments such as these. It is definitely worth the binge.

Although it was only a single release, TheB are more than glad to see THE BOYZ back and performing again. What did you like the most about the new single?
