SF9 is back right at the beginning of the new year! On January 09, the boys released their 12th mini album "THE PIECE OF9" and the title track 'PUZZLE'.
The group is promoting with 7 members this time as YoungBin and InSeong are still in the military. And if RoWoon had some drama shooting unlike with the previous "THE WAVE OF9", he managed to be with the group to promote their new album and finally meet with their fans once again. But even with some members missing, SF9 will always be nine at heart!
Once again, the group included their OF9 logo -standing for "Only For 9"- meaning they are always together when promoting. This way, it feels like all the members are here, giving their love to the fans.

Their last release was last summer with "THE WAVE OF9" (and 'SCREAM'). Since their last comeback, SF9 has been promoting without their leader and their co-member who both joined the military. The other members are also very busy individually, especially with drama shooting. RoWoon is currently preparing for a new drama to be released in 2023 "This Romance Is Irresistible". ZuHo was also quite busy as he was cast to star in an upcoming BL drama in 2023 "Starstuck". And Chani also got busy, as he starred in one of the most watched dramas of the end of 2022 "Under The Queen's Umbrella". But probably, they had even more schedule than this that we don't know of.

FANTASY are missing YoungBin and InSeong for this comeback too, but the previous spy universe continues for this comeback. And fans won't have time to think about anything else than the current mystery to solve. If you did not, check out the concept film right below.
The "THE PIECE OF9" album has three versions: the CATCH version, the FREEZE version, and the SCENE version.
"THE PIECE OF9" is composed of six songs: 'Puzzle', 'Love Color', 'New World', 'Fighter', 'Tight', and 'Stay with me'. ZuHo participated in the lyrics and composing of the title track 'Puzzle', as well as 'Love Color' and 'Fighter' lyrics, while HwiYoung participated in the writing of the title track's lyrics.
The title track 'PUZZLE' is a punk and pop song with a cool performance. The title track is called puzzle in reference to the album title, when all the puzzle pieces come together, it forms SF9. SF9 is pursuing their mystery and classic concept and pushing their story further as the members become secret agents.

SF9 held a media showcase that Kpopmap was invited to. They shared information about their comeback and recent activities. Here is everything that you need to know.
During the showcase, SF9 performed to 'PUZZLE' with a classic and elegant style. They were wearing a beautiful black and white suits the cherry on top for this comeback. It was a heaven match for their cool and mysterious concept. We've also got the chance to see the stage of the B-Side 'Love Color'. It is an R&B song that has a chill and relaxing melody.

MC: DaWon, please introduce this album.
Firstly, this is our 12th mini album. “THE PIECE OF9” is about gathering the scattered pieces like a puzzle and becoming a complete team. As you can see from the album concept, we’ve transformed into very mysterious and classic agents. So, please look forward to our upgraded and more mature music.

MC: Alright. As you said, we must talk about the album concept. As soon as the album poster was released, there was an amazing reaction. HwiYoung, what was your reaction?
Yes, firstly, it was so nice that the fans liked our agent concept. It was the same when we did the profile shoot and I’m glad that the pictures came out so satisfactorily.

MC: Yes. There were three concepts and the fans’ reactions were so good. Which member do you think fits the concept of this album the best?
I think it suits HwiYoung, who just spoke, the best. I saw it quite well whilst we were preparing for the comeback. He usually behaves a little bit like an agent, and he fell into the role and focused on being an agent well for this album concept.

MC: HwiYoung, who else matches well with this album concept?
Personally, I think TaeYang who’s next to me is the most like an agent. I’ve had that thought often because of how sharp his body is, but this album’s concept is even an agent concept, which I think fits TaeYang really well.

MC: What kind of charm does SF9 want to show through this album?
I think this album can be thought of as SF9’s ‘ultimate version’ album concept, meaning that all the members’ satisfaction level with the album is high. It’s an album where we have received a lot of good energy and vibes since our meetings with the company staff, and it makes me think that we’ll be able to show a new side of ourselves to our fans.

MC: The music video is also cool, did anything interesting happen during the shoot?
When we were filming, YoungBin , who is in the military, provided us food and snacks on the filming set. It happened to be YoungBin’s birthday on the same day. So, we also secretly threw a surprise birthday party for him.

MC: What did YoungBin tell you?
While monitoring our music video filming, YoungBin showed his desire to join us and gave us his support, encouraging messages, and advice. Thanks to that we got better results.

MC: Did InSeong cheer you on, as well?
Unfortunately, InSeong couldn’t come to the filming set due to the military, but he said on the phone that he enjoyed the dance practice video and told us that the song and concept are good. Our members also asked the members who are serving in the military for feedback on the album. They showed their willingness to do the comeback together because the album is cool.

MC: JaeYoon participated in composing this album, how was it?
I participated in this album as a songwriter for the first time. It’s a song called ‘Stay with me’ and it contains my thoughts about the fans. I played it for the fans in advance during our last concert. I think it’s an honor to have my song included in the official album.

Dispatch: After being busy with your individual activities, you are starting promotions as SF9. I wonder what kind of synergy you feel when you work with SF9 members, and I want to know what drives you to continue your individual and group activities so persistently.
The team called SF9 is, literally speaking, a team. When we are working as SF9, we can feel even bigger support from fans. So, we prepared even harder to repay them. And thanks to our team activities, we can actively participate in individual activities. We can continue with SF9’s activities thanks to this driving force.

Dailian: ZuHo participated in the title song and I’m curious about the participation process. I’m also curious if any of the other members participated in the album.
I’ve been working on a variety of B-Sides until now, but this time I had the great opportunity to participate in the title song. In fact, I wanted to break away from the existing framework regarding the songs and choreography and make this album together with the members. Above all, I think it’s the members themselves who understand their color and know what they can do well. So, I expressed my desire to participate in this album to the company officials. The members are satisfied with the results, and I personally like the results, too.

We usually share our opinions with the production team about choreography and styling.

I want to see them comment, “SF9 is the best.”

I personally might not have seen such a comment yet, but I still hope they leave a comment saying that SF9 is the best.

Mine is similar to Chani’s but I’d like to see a comment saying, “SF9 rocked the music scene!”

Star News: SF9’s participated in composing, choreography, and more. I want to know which parts each of you think you’ve grown in.
I can’t say that I’ve grown a lot as an artist, but in terms of performance or compared to when I was younger, I think I’ve grown taller. ^^ And I think my spectrum of listening to music has expanded a little.

I think I’ve become more expressive when I write lyrics. When writing raps, I must write rap lyrics that fit the content before and after it. Before, there were some things that I lacked in, but I think I’ve grown a little bit now.

Dong-A: This question is for RoWoon. It’s been a while since you’ve taken part in SF9’s promotions. I’d like to hear your thoughts about being back.
Firstly, it was so much fun participating in the choreography. The choreographer and the members made the choreography together. Although I did not participate in the choreographing process, I’m satisfied with the choreography’s completion just as I expected of the members. We recently filmed a dance video, and I think it was well-prepared. I felt so comfortable because I’ve known the members for such a long time, and I’m so happy and excited to see our fans as SF9.
