N.Flying's Best 8 Songs To Mark Their 8th Debut Anniversary

        FNC Entertainment Naver Post

On May 20, 2023, N.Flying celebrated their 8th debut anniversary. Though the member line-up has changed throughout the years, they are currently a five member band consisting of members SeungHyub, Cha Hun, JaeHyun, HweSeung and DongSung.

The FNC Entertainment band has never failed to produce amazing music. Always bringing energy, passion and meaning to each song and developing their own style as a band, N.Flying have spent each of these eight years carving their place in K-Pop.

From their discography, here are just eight of their best songs to mark each year of the band.

Note: This is not a ranking.

        1. ‘Rooftop’

Up the top of the list is the song that earned N.Flying their first music show win, ‘Rooftop’. Released on Jan. 2, 2019, ‘Rooftop’ is a groovy song that incorporates reggae elements and centres the verses around rap. It reminisces sentiments of admiring the stars and the moon on a rooftop with a lover in the past.

This song holds deep significance to the group and its fandom because of the magnitude of its success. It earned the band their first and second music show wins and the events that led to the wins were impressive. It was an anonymous online post and netizens spreading the word around that got many non-fans listening to the song and supporting it. The song had reached number 643 on Melon’s daily chart when promotions ended on Feb. 8 but because of the sheer attention the post attracted, it shot up the charts to number 97 on Melon’s real time Top 100. It even dominated the Gaon Charts. Because of its sudden immense popularity, they were invited for an encore during which time they earned their first wins in four years of debuting.

        2. ‘Hot Potato’

Released on Jan. 3, 2018 as the title song of their 3rd mini album, “THE HOTTEST : N.Flying”, ‘Hot Potato’ is an upbeat track with an attention-grabbing title, an interesting opening and a hyped-up chorus. Portrayed in the music video as a bunch of young men who go from leading less than impressive lives to being at the centre of attention on the red carpet, the song is about having unknockable confidence.

With a name like ‘Hot Potato’ and an exhilarating sound to match its confident and carefree message, it’s a wonder how anyone can resist falling for this song.

        3. ‘I Like You’

‘I Like You’ is the title song of the band’s latest comeback. The 2022 song is about someone who has just gotten out of a break-up trying their hardest to not fall for someone new but failing to control their feelings for them.

The song starts with the lyrics, ‘I’m screwed. I’ve reined it in perfectly until now, But why did you have to show up all of a sudden?’, and ends with the lines repeating, ‘I’m doomed! I’m in love with you, I’m doomed! I’m in love with you’.

        4. ‘Lovefool’

‘Lovefool’ is the lively B-side track of their 2018 album, “HOW ARE YOU?”. The song expresses the wholehearted adoration and love for someone that makes everything about them seem beautiful. The joyful strums of the guitar in the instrumental, the elation felt in the vocals and the overall happy-go-lucky vibes of the song perfectly portray the happiness of being unashamedly in love.

N.Flying shows that there’s no shame in being called a lovefool when that person is beautiful no matter what in your eyes and makes you happy.

        5. ‘Crossroad’

‘Crossroad’ is a 2018 song about languishing in the regret of wrongly letting a lover go. The lyrics paint a picture of someone loitering around the crossroad in front of their ex-lover’s house, hoping that their ex-lover might stumble across them and take notice of their unspoken feelings. The uphill road they used to walk is now difficult but missing a loved one you could’ve treated better is more difficult.

        6. ‘Flashback’

‘Flashback’ is arguably one of their most iconic songs despite not being a title song. What makes it so popular is its heartbreaking lyrics about the longing for a lost love persisting as the seasons pass, the power and emotion of the vocals (particularly main vocalist HweSeung’s) and the dramatic instrumental.

The song starts off tenderly with mellow vocals before it gradually builds into an explosive and passionate chorus with all the band’s instruments. When ‘Flashback’ is performed live, main vocalist and rapper SeungHyub, who normally doesn’t play an instrument on stage, plays the keyboard and HweSeung occasionally plays the guitar.

        7. ‘Moonshot’

The title song of the band’s 2021 album, “Man On The Moon”, ‘Moonshot’ is another iconic song by N.Flying. It gets the listener’s heart racing with the energy and vigour that runs through the entire song, accompanied by SeungHyub and HweSeung’s powerful vocals. The strength in their singing, especially in the chorus, suits the song’s message of, ‘If you wanna change, be not afraid’.

All the elements of this song combine to launch its listeners into bravely creating the change they want in their own lives.

        8. ‘Into Bloom’

N.Flying’s 2021 song, ‘Into Bloom’, explores the story of maturing as we endure the pain of various life experiences. The song likens the process of maturing to a blooming within the heart. The melody throughout the song is sweet, yet there is an underlying melancholy and sentimentality which suits the theme of the song.

On May 20, N.Flying released their digital single, “Once in a BLUE MOON”, to celebrate their 8th anniversary. It includes two tracks, ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘TREE’. Check them out below.
