Historical rom-com, "The Matchmakers," has been captivating viewers ever since its release with its wonderful cast and intriguing storyline. At the helm is RoWoon and Cho YiHyun as the drama's two main leads. It tells the story of widower Sim JeongWoo (RoWoon), and widow Jeong SoonDeok (Cho YiHyun). The two come together in order to carry out an important mission from the king himself: to help older singles get married.

Many eyes are focused on Sim JeongWoo with his comedic actions, upright morals, and blinding visuals. While he stands at the forefront, the women are just as charismatic and present a driving force in the action. Their strong, independent nature shines through and audiences are able to witness a cast of outstanding ladies who break down the expectations of your typical female character from historical K-Dramas.

So let's meet these powerful women who are bold and unafraid to show their true colors.

        1. Jeong SoonDeok

When talking about "The Matchmakers," it feels only right to first mention Jeong SoonDeok. Despite her soft, innocent appearance, her fierce charisma often lights a flame so bright that Sim JeongWoo can feel it from across the room. Although she presents herself as an obedient daughter-in-law, when it comes to matchmaking, she confidently pushes forward, amassing an enormously high success rate among her peers. She stands on a pedestal of respect, but continues to remain humble and sincere in all that she does.

        2. Park SoHyun

On the outside, Park SoHyun (Park JiYoung) might seem like a well-respected madam and supportive wife of the Left State Councilor. However, viewers soon learn that she sits at the head of the table, possessing the smarts and charisma to lead the household. "The Matchmakers" might be building up Park SoHyun to be one of the final villains our protagonists must face, but the influence she holds is undeniable. Park SoHyun is certainly someone you do not want to mess with, unless you desire a timely demise.

        3. Jo YeJin

Jo YeJin (Oh YeJu) might not be forthcoming with her feelings, but she's certainly unforgettable. Although she listens to her elders to some extent, she cannot shake off the desires of her heart. Jo YeJin might not confess her affection for Scholar Yoon BooGyeom (Choi KyngHoon) outright, however, she is courageous enough to spend an entire day with him. While it could be interpreted that she's getting ready to say goodbye to her secret love, it could also be a step forward to a potentially happy ending between the two.

        4. Maeng Siblings

The Maeng siblings (Jeong ShinHye, Park JiWon, and Jung BoMin), otherwise known as the old maidens, are central to the mission of Sim JeongWoo and Jeong SoonDeok. While their peers were getting married, they chose to remain single in order to care for their ailing mother. Even after they agree to pursue potential suitors, they continued to retain their distinct personal color. In doing so, each sister became spotlighted at various moments throughout the drama.

"The Matchmakers" is meticulous in the way that it introduces the various charms of the Maeng siblings. All three are allowed ample screen time, making it possible to learn more about them. While the people around the Maeng sisters see them as strange and different, it's these unique qualities that set them apart and cover them in an air of elegance, charisma, beauty, and so much more.
