For many Acting-dols, we can rightly presume that one of the reasons that spur their interest in acting is having the K-Drama actor looks. Due to their handsome visuals, many idols are often giving a suggestive push toward being an actor. Some often sought to make their debut as an actor but either due to trends or agency plans, they make their official debut as an idol instead.

However, while their handsome good looks are important what often sets them apart and garner due recognition is the level of talent they display. And when we think about idols whose talents have projected them as amazing actors today, one of the names that come rushing to mind is WEi's Kim YoHan.

While this article aims to spotlight Kim YoHan's impressive acting talents, we first must acknowledge the equally impressive strides he continues to make as an idol. Both with his group WEi and as a soloist, Kim YoHan continues to take on challenges that do not just show off his passion for his craft but also help him grow as an artist.

With multiple successful albums released so far, many variety show appearances, music show host, and a handful of dramas under his belt, there is no doubt that Kim YoHan is leaving his glittering footprints across various areas of the entertainment industry as he continues to pique the attention of both fans and critics alike.

As many would know, Kim YoHan was first introduced to fans as a participant in the Mnet survival program "Produce X 101" in 2019. His budding performance skills and no doubt striking good looks made many interested in him and steadily earned him an impressive amount of popularity amongst fans, which also translated to him earning enough votes to earn a spot in the debut group that would be formed at the end of the show, X1.

While X1's promotions were sadly short-lived, Kim YoHan continued on his trajectory path to success, by first making his solo debut and then joining his current group, WEi in 2020.

Talent is something that Kim YoHan clearly doesn't lack as even before he came onto the reality competition, he was already a two-time National Taekwondo-winning athlete. Looking back at clips of his performances during the competition, perhaps we could be right in saying that his competitive spirit and drive spurred him to thrive to do well in the competition as quite shockingly, he had only trained for 3 months before he joined the competition.

And perhaps his drive is also what has put him on the path of becoming a successful acting-dol as with his roles so far, he has shown an impressive level of skill with his acting that doesn't just make us feel proud but also excited for his future as an actor.

Like we mentioned earlier, in this article, we will be talking about his acting journey and how he shows his versatile colors in dramas.

2020: The start of something new

The year 2020 must have been a very busy one for Kim YoHan as he didn't just make his solo and group debut, he also starred in 2 dramas that year, one of which was a cameo appearance in the thriller drama "The Zombie Detective". While his appearance in this drama did garner him a ton of reaction and buzz online perhaps what spurred him to massive popularity was his role as Cha Heon in the web drama "A Love So Beautiful".

As we are preparing this article and rewatching episodes of the drama, it's quite hard to believe that this was his first main role or even speaking role, as he displayed a level of talent that says otherwise.

The coming-of-age drama sees Kim YoHan starring alongside So JooYeon, Yeo HoeHyun, Joo HyeJoo, and Jeong JinHwan. The drama tells the story of a bright and cheerful high school student Shin SolI who has a crush on her classmate, Cha Heon. She tries to make her feelings known but gets turned down at every turn by a cold Cha Heon. However, in reality, Cha Heon wasn't cold or disinterested, he just didn't know how to express himself.

The drama and its cute storyline gained global popularity and its cast, especially Kim YoHan also earned notable recognition for their acting skills as well. Kim YoHan's transition from a high school student to a doctor was spot on as he showed the emotive range that projected the mindset of Cha Heon at both phases.

With high school Cha Heon, he is seen as a smart, quirky, and dutiful, but not as expressive with his emotions but as Dr. Cha Heon, even though he still lacks a bit with expressing himself, there is a level of growth we can all notice.

Kim YoHan's acting yet again deserves a nod of appreciation from fans as we were all smitten by Cha Heon and understood his story perfectly.

He also showed off his soothing vocal colors by singing the OST for the drama.

By 2021, he had another cameo appearance in the psychological thriller drama "Mouse". His appearance may have been so brief but it was impactful as fans immediately took to social media to express their thoughts on his appearance and perhaps what it could mean for the plot of the drama.

The buzz generated from the drama also earned him a top 3 spot in the drama search issue keyword of the week.

From a cameo appearance to another main role, Kim YoHan would continue to show his budding yet amazing acting skills with the high teen drama "School 2021". Starring alongside Cho YiHyun, Choo YoungWoo, and Hwang BoReumByeol, the drama tells the story of students in a vocational high school, who learn the value of life and finding one's purpose amidst the troubling thoughts of the future and societal pressures.

It's clear he takes his acting seriously as he shows an impressive level of skill with his roles so far. For the preparation of this role in particular, in an interview with ELLE, he revealed:

The series is so famous, and I'm worried because I'm starring in it. I exchange lines with my manager hyung, and I read the script with various tones and attitudes by myself.

Clearly, his passion paid off as the drama was yet again another success and projected Kim YoHan as a true leading man prospect.

With his two main roles, one of the things we can vividly note and acknowledge is Kim YoHan's ability to deliver a convincing performance on the emotional spectrum.

In scenes that required such an emotional depth and expression, he delivered beautifully, connecting his viewers to the feelings of his character and even making some of us shed soft tears as we watched. The nuance between each emotional moment, be it despair or pain, love or joy could be noticed and had a great effect on the mind of the viewers as his story progressed.

On the other end, when it required being funny or comical, even though they were scripted moments, it didn't feel forced or unnatural, it was served with the right note and expressions that made viewers laugh or smile.

Another element we would spot is his chemistry with the cast. Be it romantic or friendship, there is such a fine and charming relationship in the story he tells with his other characters, even the ones who are meant to be his "enemies" or "rivals", you can't help but somewhat root for them.

His performance in this drama earned great recognition from both global fans and critics alike. Notably, he took home the "Best New Actor" and "Best Couple" awards at the KBS Drama Awards in 2021.

With his ever-increasing level of talent, these awards would no doubt be the first of many to come, as we predict he will continue to excel in this field and gain more notable acclaim in the future.ย

Roles we would like to see him play in the futureย

Like we mentioned, Kim YoHan has a handful of dramas so far but his acting future is by no way bleak as he is scheduled to make more comebacks in the future. While there are already some proposed roles he is set to play in his upcoming dramas, here are some we would love to see him play in the future.

        1. An action star

        OUI Entertainment

Kim YoHan is very athletic and asides being a National champion, he has also participated in a lot of idol competitions as well. His physique and flexibility make us believe he will be best suited for an action drama. Perhaps as part of a team of young adults seeking to bring an end to the tyranny of the corrupt individuals controlling the government and its people.

        2. An office rom-com

Acting-dol Of The Week: WEi's Kim YoHan, A Star With Unlimited Talents And Potential

        OUI Entertainment

At the tail end of "A Love So Beautiful", we got to see Kim YoHan as an adult character which piqued our interest in seeing him play more roles like these in the future. Bringing a sense of maturity while still displaying his youthful and fun vibe, we believe an office rom-com drama would be best for him as well. Perhaps playing the main lead, a cute and funny intern who is smitten by his strong and confident boss, and does everything he can to win her heart.

        3. A villain in a psychological thriller

Acting-dol Of The Week: WEi's Kim YoHan, A Star With Unlimited Talents And Potential

        OUI Entertainment

We keep pushing for Kim YoHan to take on a villain role because we believe he has the skill level to take on such a challenging role and deliver an amazing and expressive performance. He already made a cameo in this genre with the drama "Mouse", but a full-fledged storyline with a character whose actions and personality are so shocking and filled with many suspenseful twists would be a very interesting option for him. Somehow we are thinking of a shocking twist like Shin JaeHa's character in "Crash Course In Romance" but perhaps darker.

        4. A sports-themed drama

Acting-dol Of The Week: WEi's Kim YoHan, A Star With Unlimited Talents And Potential

        OUI Entertainment

Sports-themed dramas are slowly becoming a norm in K-Drama as fans get to explore a new and interesting genre that also serves some realistic situations and experiences. As a former athlete, this themed drama will definitely be well under Kim YoHan's wheelhouse as he would be able to connect with the genre. And it would be nice to see him show off his athleticism as well.
