The roster of January 2024 K-Dramas is proving to be a spectacular success so far, with each one presenting its own set of unique strengths and keeping us glued to our screens. The latest addition to that list is "Knight Flower", a historical romantic comedy starring Lee HaNee and Lee JongWon that is leaving us in splits and giving us all the butterflies at the same time.

If you haven't watched "Knight Flower" yet, here are three reasons to convince you that this is a K-Drama you do not want to miss!

        Reasons To Watch "Knight Flower"

        1. Virtuous Woman By Day, Vigilante By Night

        MBC

The central premise of "Knight Flower" revolves around a young widow named Jo YeoHwa (played by Lee HaNee), who has been grieving the passing of her husband for 15 years now. She has umpteen restrictions placed on her so as to appear as the perfect virtuous and chaste woman, but her heart is free, and her spirit is indomitable.

While she is forced to stay inside during the day, at night, YeoHwa sneaks out in the garb of a masked man to fight crime and help the people as a vigilante. She is incredibly talented in martial arts and has become quite the legend. Where law and order cannot reach, YeoHwa does, and the people love her for it. However, her identity is on the verge of being compromised when she runs into Forbidden Guard Division officer Park SooHo (played by Lee JongWon).

        2. Fighting The Patriarchy

        MBC

Jo YeoHwa is not only fighting crime but she is also at odds with patriarchy. Her mother-in-law forces her to starve, doesn't let her go outside, and punishes her at the slightest inconvenience. However, this is not just because she is a part of the patriarchal society. It has to do with politics.

You see, like "The Story Of Park's Marriage Contract", "Knight Flower" also deals with the Joseon dynasty concept of "yeolnyeo" or "virtuous woman award", whereby the government gave rewards to families where a woman stayed loyal to her late husband, showing her respect and devotion to him endlessly. It is this reward and "honor" that YeoHwa's mother-in-law is after, so YeoHwa has been mourning the loss of her husband for 15 years.

Despite YeoHwa's quality of life being sacrificed for a reward, she is determined to live her life on her own terms, even if that means she has to do it secretly. She may be going along with her mother-in-law's antics, but she has a few tricks up her sleeve, too.

        3. Forbidden Romance

        MBC

As per the custom of the "virtuous woman", a widow may not be touched by any other man, let alone fall in love with him. However, YeoHwa is not only held by Park SooHo (albeit accidentally) but also piques his interest when she runs into him. Park SooHo is not your traditional guy, though, so he doesn't really care about her status as a virtuous woman. What he does care about is to catch the masked man, who he quickly realizes is actually a woman. This couple is about to go from enemies to lovers to forbidden romance, and we cannot wait to see it all unfold. Besides, with Lee HaNee and Lee JongWon's otherworldly visuals, we are already head over heels for this romance!
