February is just on the horizon but 2024 has already proven to be packed with outstanding K-Dramas that tick off every box on the checklist. While each drama is distinct with their own captivating characteristics, "Knight Flower" has done well to enchant audiences since its premiere. Week after week the historical comedy rises in viewership, breaking personal records with every new episode.

"Knight Flower" sees Lee Hanee and Lee JongWon at the very center, making weekends at home that much more fun. It focuses on Cho YeoHwa (Lee Hanee) a 15-year widow who lives a double life. By day, she's virtuous, does not take a step outside unless allowed, and upkeeps the values of the household. However, at night, she's a valiant vigilante bent on helping those in need. During one of her escapades, she encounters Park SooHo (Lee JongWon), a senior officer, and the two become involved with one another.

Female characters in historical K-Dramas usually carry themselves with an unbridled elegance. And while Cho YeoHwa possesses this to some degree, she also challenges the status quo of what it means to be a woman in Joseon Korea.

Here are a few ways Lee Hanee has captivated viewers in "Knight Flower" through her character Cho YeoHwa.

        1. Hero For The People

There are various duties expected of a woman in the Joseon period — and being a hero for the people is not one of them. Through her efforts, Cho YeoHwa was able to gain mass acclaim as a masked vigilante, becoming a beacon of hope for the less fortunate. She helps those wallowing in the depths of burden and hardship, allowing them to walk towards a better and brighter tomorrow. Despite being a direct conflict with her duties as a widow, YeoHwa constantly makes the decision to leave behind the title of a noblewoman and take on a role much more suited to her skillset.

        2. Taking Charge Of Her Own Life

Joseon women are expected to give themselves towards the household. This includes their in-laws, husband, and children. While Cho YeoHwa does not have the latter two, her mother-in-law continues to maintain a firm grip and remains a big influence on her daily routine. However, when dealing with her mother-in-law, YeoHwa concedes in a way that allows her to retain some bit of freedom in her life.

And with that freedom, she ventures off at night, becoming a legendary figure that people can count on. She breaks multiple stereotypes of the typical Joseon woman and forges her own path, illuminated by her good deeds and the tales people tell of them.

        3. Willingness To Forgo Elegance

There are various expectations that Cho YeoHwa must meet in her position. One of them involves holding herself with a certain poise and elegance. However, she often takes off this mask and reveals her true, most authentic self when helping the people. While she does show interest in a hanbok's colorful design and adheres to her mother-in-law's requests, she is innately a fighter, willing to get her hands dirty to get the job done. YeoHwa is the type of person who would not mind getting dirt on her sleeves. And if not for the expectations placed upon her, she would certainly be more open in helping those around her.

        4. Outstanding Fighting Prowess

Growing up, Cho YeoHwa learned how to wield a sword, becoming tied to her personal identity. Even after entering into marriage, she continued to hone her swordsmanship. She has shown incredible fighting prowess, taking on a multitude of enemies at a time. Cho YeoHwa is far from fragile, and while she may uphold an upright and delicate image during the day, her nighttime transformation proves she's a complete force to be reckoned with.
