5 Moments Of Second Lead Syndrome From Kim WooSeok In "The Forbidden Marriage"

        MBC

Going into a K-Drama, it's expected that the two main leads will get together in the end. From their interactions to the way they longingly yearn for each other, their happily ever after becomes set the moment they appear in the same scene. However, it's not unusual to see a main character have phenomenal chemistry with a secondary lead. This often leads viewers to develop the infamous "second lead syndrome".

The "second lead syndrome" is a common K-Drama trope in which the second main lead steals the viewers' hearts. They make you want to cheer for them and hope that, against all odds, they will end up becoming a couple with the main lead. Currently airing historical drama, "The Forbidden Marriage", employs beloved actor, Kim WooSeok, as the perfect example of this. His character, Lee ShinWon, has become a fan favorite, leaving many to fawn over the royal officer.

Now, let's check out some moments of Kim WooSeok giving viewers major "second lead syndrome" vibes as Lee ShinWon.

Warning: this article will contain some spoilers.

        1. When Lee ShinWon Sees SoRang For The First Time

It is made known early on in the series that Officer Lee ShinWon and con-artist shaman SoRang (played by Park JuHyun) have some history together. Although they were not able to meet face to face, ShinWon caught a glimpse of her from afar. With a flurry of cherry blossoms falling and a clear, moonlit night sky up above, the scene couldn't have been more perfect. You could see the hearts forming in his eyes as he looked upon the lovely SoRang.

        2. A Sudden Embrace

It wouldn't be a K-Drama without a sudden, heart-pounding embrace. The scene has a hilarious start, with SoRang's exaggerated movements and zealous battle cry. But ShinWon doesn't bat an eye and remains serious for a majority of the training session. That is until SoRang begins teasing him about a book and its scandalous contents. It ends with the two just a hair's breadth apart, leaving viewers everywhere squealing in excitement.

        3. Taking Off With SoRang

In order to protect the person you love, sometimes you need to do the unthinkable. Even if that includes angering the king, who also happens to be your best friend. ShinWon shows no fear as he tightly grabs onto SoRang and whisks her away, right in front of Lee Heon (played by Kim YoungDae). ShinWon's determined expression and overflowing charisma is more than enough to make viewers support his every decision.

        4. "I will stay by your side"

A whole storm of events swept through the palace and SoRang was caught in the very center. This causes ShinWon's concern for her to multiply tenfold, leading to this heartfelt exchange. You can feel the desperation in his voice as he begs her to run away to safety, outside of the palace. He even offers to remain by her side and claims that he will protect her from any danger that might come their way. Now that's an offer we would take up in an instant!

Although all signs have been pointing in the direction of SoRang developing feelings for Lee Heon, nothing could have prepared us for this tearjerker of a scene. ShinWon's eyes says it all and we cannot imagine how difficult it might have been to utter those words. We can only hope that if they meet again, they will be able to rekindle their friendship and smile together once more.
