          One is said genres is melodrama (Melodramatic). Due to its depth and exposition of emotions, fans often enjoy melodrama as it gives off more realistic views on the dynamics and complexities of human relationships, society, communities, and life in general.

          While the majority of Korean BL dramas border on a cute and fantastical love story, there are some which do not just tell a love story but also add realistic elements that make it conceivable and relatable as well. These dramas are often tagged as melodrama.

          Starring: Son WooHyeon and Kim KangMin

          Summary: "To My Star" tells the budding love story between a famous actor and a chef. Both from different worlds and having polar opposite personalities, they are faced with a situation when the actor has to move into the house of the chef. Constant interactions lead to sparks of romance as they both discover their feelings for each other.

          "To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories" serves as a continuation of the first season. A year ago, Han JiWlo broke up with Kang SeoJun and completely disappeared without any warning or reason throwing Kang SeoJun into emotional turmoil. He's been searching for him since then and he finally found him. Fueled by his anger and quest for answers, he confronts Han JiWoo but whatever anger he held in his heart swiftly disappeared as he came face to face with his ex-lovers once again. A chance reunion, Kang SeoJun is not willing to let Han JiWoo go this time and will do everything he can to stay by his side. But will his persistence be able to match Han JiWoo's stubbornness, especially with another ex lurking around?

          Why watch?: While it serves an ample dose of cute, funny, and heartwarming moments, the drama also explores relatable themes like mental health, depression, self-acceptance, and heartbreaks.

           

          2. "You Make Me Dance"

          Starring: Won TaeMin and Choo YoungWoo

          Summary: The drama tells the love story between a contemporary dancer and a debt collector. Song ShiOn is a talented contemporary dancer training to enter a competition that will earn him a spot in a performance. His mother got married and following a fallout, abandoned him, leaving him with a pile of debts. One day, Jin HongSeok a debt collector is sent to retrieve the debt but upon listening to Song ShiOn, he finds some familiarity with him as he also once had a dream of becoming a pianist. In a bid to ensure he collects the debt, he moves in with Song ShiOn and tries to help him focus on his goals, despite the prying interest from his boss and a dance rival. However, both parties begin to realize that their relationship is more than just being a debtor and collector as they begin to form an affection for each other.

          For: Fans who enjoy a simple love story with a young couple without too much of a dramatic twist.

          Why watch? Short and straightforward, this easy-to-watch drama tells the love story without adding unnecessary plots or twists while still holding its enjoyable factor.

           

          3. "The Eight Sense"

          Starring: Lim JiSub and Oh JunTaek

          Summary: the campus romance drama tells the story of a fresher and senior in the same surfing club who form a romantic attraction for each other and seek to discover their new found feelings for each other, while one of them suffers from a mental issue due to a traumatic past that would come back to haunt him.

          For: viewers who enjoy a good story with emotional depth and hints of realism.

          Why watch?: from amazing chemistry to brilliant acting and storytelling, beautiful cinematography, and interesting character development, this series is what many fans rightly call a masterpiece and a must-watch.

           

          4. "Peach Of Time"

          Starring : Choi JaeHyun and Karn Kritsanaphan 

          Summary: A 22-year-old boy decides to take a bold step and visit Korea to see his long-time friend. However, his expectations are faced with a sudden reality when he finds that his friend Yun Oh and his mother do not get along. Seeing his friend suffer makes his heartache and gives Peach a new goal of mending their estranged relationship mending the relationship between the mother and son. However, theirs is not the only relationship that he should be paying attention to as he starts to get a new feeling for Yoon Oh, one that is clearly deeper than friendship.

          For: viewers who enjoy a love story with hints of mystery and fantasy.

          Why watch? The drama explores various themes from mental health to abuse, self-acceptance, and familial and societal pressures, as well. While also giving a proper dose of a love story between the main leads.

           

          5."Blueming"

          Starring: Cho HyukJun and Kang EunBin

          Summary: The series tells the story of two university students who started off as popularity rivals but soon ended up falling in love with each other. Cha SiWon a fresher in the university, gains a good level of attention for his handsome looks and charms. However, he would see his rising fame threatened when another student, Hyeong DaOn, begins to steal the attention of his classmates. What makes it even more uncomfortable is the awkward tension between them that makes Cha SiWon thinks that Hyung DaOn hates him. However, thanks to a drunken incident, his perception of him begins to change as a lingering feeling of affection arises in his heart.

          For: viewers who enjoy a short-form drama with a good character development plot.

          Why watch: this college romance drama serves a delectable plate filled with every element that makes a BL drama enjoyable while also sharing notes of valuable life lessons as well.
